Apartment neighbor complaing about chickens

I will attempt to make this short and sweet

I just received a call from my uncle who is the mayor of our super super super small town, said neighbors in the apartment behind me are complaining about my chickens he said he thinks it's because they are pooping around the yard they use or something, I don't want to say exactly where I live just because that's just me but the population of the whole town is less than 650 people my house is half on county half on city land, my chickens free roam, always have I've lived here 15+ years same spot same everything, only difference is I do not have as many animals as I use too.

Regardless, I don't have a way to put them up, I can't afford to build anything, they put their self up at night in the sheds around the yard or trees whatever it may be, I was raised to let them run it is best for them and I've never in my life had someone say something, and to be completely honest I've never seen the chickens in yard of this neighbors apartment, they go in the thicket that is on my property.

Idk what to do, I'm not a very nice person when it comes to my animals and people wanting to complain, I've tried to find local laws nothing. There are leash laws here and no one enforces that or anything else the police are not even allowed to give people tickets, when I say this is a small town it is, just looking for insight

Thanks all
FYI - if a person where to complain about a dog running at large and the police/SPCA/animal control did nothing about it, and that dog attacked someone or caused an automobile accident then not only would the owner be held responsible but the authority who failed to follow up on that issue would be at a huge accountability and would have no legal leg to stand on. Maybe the reason that the dogs owners are not given notice is because they don't have tags to track the owner. In which case here, such animals would be collected and sent to the SPCA and if not collected by the owner or re-homed then they would be euthanized.

Ever stop to think what would happen if someone swerved to miss one of your chickens on the road, and hit a child???

I'm not sure that it was confirmed that chickens were leaving the property. :idunno

Sounds like chickens running amok to me…

Oh Good, you're not a nice person when it comes to your animals. Go with that.

Let your Uncle know the city dwellers need to become acclimated to the rural aspects of living or move.

They are pooping on your property, correct? I've never heard of an apartment with a yard. Townhouse or condo maybe, but apartments don't have yards.

If they do have an actual yard, tell them fences make good neighbors and they should build one. You're not disrupting your lifestyle because they moved in.

Record it.

Considering half the property is county and the city has no jurisdiction and there are no ordinances and no one enforces the ones on the books sounds like your uncle has a private agenda with the neighbor out back. Sometimes power goes to peoples head and sometimes new neighbors will rock the boat when they move to a new place. The town may not be able to force you to lock your chickens up but a fence would protect them.A roll of chicken wire would go a long way in solving this problem if one actually exists.I have family members who are backstabbers and hope this isn't the case with you.

Yes, every time I hear about someone swerving, crashing and sometimes leaving themselves paralyzed, I remember my drivers ed teacher telling us to apply the brakes rather than crash the car.
I guess that Drivers Education classes aren't standardized.

Instinct sometimes overrules instruction, especially in younger/more nervous/inexperienced drivers. Not to mention that stopping the car isn't always a viable action either

A chicken wire fence is a good option- a roll of fence and a few posts may be all you need to go along the boundary line.

In my very small town experience when there isn't an ordinance for things like this, but there are complaints, an ordinance will eventually be made and you will lose. Being a relative of the town supervisor may not be a benefit as viewed by other locals. Watch your back, but moreover watch someone doesn’t harm your chickens. Fences make for better neighbors.
