Apologies, just remembered to do this...

Many thanks for the welcomes and to answer a few questions asked hopefully without boring you all........

Its a long story (like most things) but basically a divorce left me penniless and homeless and after several years spent getting back on my feet I decided it just was not worth watching my hard earned cash disappearing into the British HM Treasury whilst trying to cover rent/bills/work travel costs/divorce debts etc only just breaking even so my partner and I sold everything and spent a couple of years in Turkey before deciding to try and live a self sufficient lifestyle here as to be blunt it was the only country we could afford to buy a property in and meet the residency requirements, with a few twists and turns on the way and it has been quite an awaking for two people who had never grown or reared anything before, it has been interesting.

We have a Kangal cross, he is a street dog we rescued when volunteering at the Municipality Kennels in Turkey. He still has a few issues even after the years we have had him, he is great with all the animals/birds we have but any intruders of any species beware. I will be honest and say cats are still an issue (and we have lots of them living around us) as they used to be his main meals when he could catch them but we can now walk him past them on the lead and he will tolerate them if they are not close, we think he is about 9 now so I doubt we will get any more improvement but we are still working on it.

Things have improved but I agree growing and producing your own food is much healthier and as we have found it tastes altogether better.
What an interesting life story!! I hope all goes well on your self sustaining farm. So glad you rescued the pup. We did the same, and although they have a life long set of issues to deal with, they also have a life long huge love and appreciation for a good life. Sometimes I look at my Ruby and say, we shall just be broken together. We need each other for sure. Life has a way of giving each of us something to leave us just a bit broken. Animals and chickens bring us back to the basic joys of life, don't they?
