UPDATE 7/2 gave her monistat: I checked on her a few times last night she was standing sleeping, quiet. This morning still full (super full) and looked frantic for food. I gave her 3/4 scrambled egg mixed with 2cc of monistat 7 along with a 1/2 tsp yogurt (familiar flavor). i'll give this to her twice a day. why does she want to eat so much?? she wanted more but it stopped her started with a smaller amount and she wanted more. Is she getting enough if i'm only feading the equivalent of an egg each date. i washed her up a bit and she's back in her temporary quarantine. my plan is to let her rest and keep an eye on her. I think it's going to be a long day.
hi have a sick bird (Blacky) she's a 1 1/2 year black ostralorp. normally kept outside with 3 other birds her age. she was getting bullied (bloody from pecks) so she was moved inside. i don't think she's broody, but not 100% (it's a friends's theory). also, her crop, part of the under body, and the back/side of her head are bald (i was out of town so friends got her set up inside) a couple days later she developed sour crop(?) and hasn't laid an egg since. her original symptoms: bobbing neck around trying to move something inside, swollen balloon crop that didn't go down in the morning, when mouth open stinky, lethargic, gurgling insides.
The first 3 days were rough, she wasn't interested water so much but would still eat and every day passed food through her. most of the time very healthy looking poops. She's doing so much better but the crop is still full and she seems uncomfortable but not major. You can almost feel the crop fill with something occasionally when i massage it. she'll come up to me and lean her back into the massage which makes me think she wants it. it must help because massaging results in smelling her sour gasses/ breath (?)? i haven't looked down her throat but when she opens her mouth wide, i don't see any white. she did vomit (2 days in a row, with and without my help) many times. I've read too much about hurting them so that's over and we now rub downward. she looked like she wanted my help to vomit (she'd squack if i didn't!) her sleep schedule is off now that she's inside (2nd shifter)
I DO NOT want to give her monistat 7 if it's not sour crop. She always wants the olive oil, eggs are a hit and yogurt is a hit sometime. she can be moping around, see a bug and then be on the prowl, she wants to eat grass and plants. she preens herself. She can pass food and drinks water, wants to snuggle, follow me, find things to eat on the floor, (i'm limiting her food) go outside but she still has the airy feeling crop and her mood is off. sometimes it feels like she's telling me what she needs, recently i feel she's tricking me into and feeding her eggs and oil giving her free run of the place, constant care/attentions. how do i know the anti-fungle is the good choice at this stage? I bought both monistat 3 and 7. I had the "monistat7" it in my hand ready to mix in her egg but i chickened out.
The information out there is conflicting, I've tried no food or water, ACV added to water, yogurt, eggs, olive oil, vomiting, moist pellets, dry pellets, red wine (a thimble full), massaging the crop upward and downward.
Notes: she's been on the bottom of the pecking order starting spring, she's made that bobbing motion on and off starting a good month ago, it was not a constant thing. I didn't always have grit available (never again!) i was feeding them tall grass, weeds and worms (never again) inside their run vs letting them out in the yard in fear of an animal getting to them.
could it be anything else? should i give her monistat 7 and how much?? thanks!
