Oh yum, a Harlequin GD is the ultimate in 'big dogs' to me. I raised GDs for a few years and did GD rescue(til it got so so pizzy), the only Harlequin I had was stunning!
I found 'Hoosierchick' by doing a member search. When I bought eggs from her, it was from the ezbyc board, so maybe check there too.
2mnypets, I'd be interested in eggs when you have them available.

Well, my girls are finally starting to lay pretty regular and Henry is doing his job quite well. Since I've never sent eggs in the mail, I'm not sure if this cold weather is a good time or not. Maybe someone with more experience could provide me with more details on that. I would be most happy to share with anyone that wants them. Henry is something else. He's quite protective of his flock but only attempted once to try and flog me. He found out that my foot is not very comfortable on his backside. He's quite submissive now to me...lol The girls are in their teens right now but not nearly as flighty as they had been. You can pet them now and they just take that submissive stance of practically laying down. They purr softly and are very predictable on where they roost in the coop. If you walk by them and stand there long enough they will preen your hair for you. Sweet babies I tell ya.

Tx_dane_mom and Dipsy - what made you fall in love with this breed? It was my hubby that saw them on the internet and hollared quite literally "I HAVE TO HAVE THEM HONEY!" So my search began on what would end up being a 2 month ordeal that made me re-think the whole concept of chickens. Not to mention the fact, that any subsequent chickens had to be hatched around the dates of the Spitzhauben clutch. I managed to find a local breeder here in my area that was getting rid of his stock. The older hens and roo were already sold after the eggs hatched. Well, we got the entire little flock of baby chicks. The rest is history. Quite the soap opera I tell ya. What we won't do for our hubby's or for chickens...lol.

Sandhill Preservation sells what they call a "silver spithauben" from the description, it's the same thing.

As far as me, I like my birds, like I like my dogs....either big, black, blue, or white w/black spots

and if it's big AND one of those colors well By GOLLY I gotta have it

My 4 breeds I am settled on narrowing down to for the spring are Black Jersey Giants (hint, hint) - want blues too; Barred Rocks - want blues too; Lt. Brahmas; and my *odd* birds are Barnevelders b/c I think the lavender dbl lacing is sooo pretty on the hens. Then I saw these guys w/their little 'hats' and they are all 'Banjo' looking (Banjo is my harlequin great dane) and so I want some

And I am also addicted to ducks, w/those I like the Pekins (huge), Blue Swedes, Snowy Calls (hmmm those are small and aren't really any of my colors, I just LOVE them), and Rouens b/c they're the largest mallards. I also have a black east indie duck too.
Oh and I have a blue guinea.
I'm pretty consistent.

I like Spitzhaubens for several reasons

I was attracted by the black / white pattern and add the crest, comb, and slate legs --- that makes them an 'odd bird'.
I expected them to be flighty, but the little group I raised before were 'people birds'.
"Spangle', the hen, would find a way to squirrel thru the fence every day and hang out by the back porch.
Anybody that came out was subject to being a 'chicken perch'

I thought it was sweet that she was so friendly --- not everyone that lives here felt that way
