Apple Cider Vinager in water

Is it true that you can't add ACV if you have a metal waterer? I bought a big plastic one for that very reason, but don't like it as much.

What ratio do you mix it? and Is it ok to use in a Galvanized Water Container?

Most seem to say 1 or 2 tbsps per gallon. I use 2 tbsps per gallon when I give it. Too much and they won't drink the water. Also be sure your water container is plastic. Not metal. The ACV will etch the metal and disolve bits into the water which is not good for the container or the birds.

i bought a 1/2 gallon plastic container just for the acv. i give it everyday per beekissed from another thread. the chickens seem to like it more than the plain water in the regular galvanized container which sits next to it.

The real test would be two identical waterers side by side, one with plain and one with ACV. It could be that the metal waterer leaves its own taste in the water that they don't like as much.

I use one of those Fortex black rubber bowls for my waterer - ACV is fine in there too.

If you put something acidic like vinegar in a galvanized metal container, the cadmium and zinc can leach out, causing illness or death. This is from my reading on internet...not experience. Also this is why you don't heat galvanized containers very hot. It will liberate the heavy metals.
