We are getting ready to put our chickens into our big coop with a 5 gallon water cooler with pvc and chicken nipples. I'm looking for a way to keep the water fresh and clean inside the cooler so we don't have to take it apart and clean it. I was planning on adding Apple Cider Vinegar to the water, but I am worried about the metal in the chicken nipples. Is the metal in the nipples enough to cause a reaction to the water similar to the galvanized cans? Any advice including alternate suggestions for keeping slime out of the water would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks! We are leaving caps on the ends of the pipes to flush it out, just in case. I just want to try to avoid any algae if possible because I can't imagine trying to clean it out of the pvc pipes once it starts. Also, we are trying to make it easy for a friend to care for the chickens when we go on vacation.

How much Apple Cider vineger do you add to 5 galons of water?
I have just set a water feeder with the nipples and want to keep the water clean and slime free

I put a wee bit of Apple cider vinegar in every bottle of water. I change it twice a day. I haven't seen any problems at all with them, they seem to like it
