Keep your chin up! I am on day 12 today (thought it was yesterday but I guess I was just hopeful... and impatient! ). We are over halfway there. I did not candle at all today. The less handling I think the better. I do plan on getting rid of a few eggs SOON... the ones that are clear or just have the yolk showing. I have a friend who is doing her first hatch and she locked down yesterday morning. By morning she had one chick out and now has 4!!! They weren't due until Friday!

How is everyone else doing? Can I get some updates?

Woke up to fin my LG at 105.3 degrees. I candled my eggs and there is still life! Thank God. It was likely that high for hours. I will candle again tonight. Hate my LG.

i figured out why my temp was so unstable and will deal with it again during lockdown. Have you figured out why yours keeps going up?

I hope we make it another 8 days! Does not seem too long seeing the number 8!

eta: I tossed 4 of my eggs today. All were scrambled and no good. I have two more that have huge ? marks on them. So 10 eggs out of 16 original that are good, 14 of those eggs had been shipped and 2 of them had been refridgerated for a small amount of time.

What was the reason for yours? I think mine is located. I have a really, really old stone house and no room has a steady temp. But my room is the hottest and thats where I have been keeping them so I can keep eye on them. I think I am going to make a bold move and move my incubator down stairs. 8 days....YEAH!

I do not think my borrowed incubator is put together correctly. Stupid me not scrutinizing how it is put together before I started this adventure. I just assumed it was correct. It had a missing part, a 'tower' that would keep the chicks away from the HOT light bulb that heats it in the middle. So, I ordered it and set it in there when I got it. That was when my temp was either 92 or 106, no in between. I took it out and the temp is consistant again. So, at lockdown I will put it back in there to protect the chicks. Like I said, my bator seems not to be put together correctly, so there is no way of securing the tower in there totally, so if a chick were to stumble and hit it, it would move. I don't have too many eggs in there considering it could hold 48 chicken eggs, so hopefully that isn't an issue.

Can I join in? I put two Leghorn eggs under my broody silkie on 4/1.

Most posts on this thread were people who were using incubators. This is my first hatch too, so i am very nervous and very excited! I have never candled before but read the threads and have veins in both eggs on day 8. yesterday, day 13, there was movement--- scared me poopless b.c. i was not expecting it to move at all and since it moved so much, i was frightened and put it back under broody thinking I "hurt" it and did not candle the second egg b.c. i was so scared of 'hurting' it.

I have been taking broody off the nest twice a day to eat, drink and poop-- approx 10 min each time...should I stop doing that---I know on day 19 i am not supposed to mess w. anything? I do not know what the heck to do! help!

Welcome twister!! The more the merrier!!!

I would LOVE to have a broody hatch the eggs vs the incubator! Lucky you! It is day 18 when you don't want to touch the eggs. Great that you have movement in those eggs & veins! Sounds like she's going to be the proud momma of two chicks in about 8 days! How egg-citing!
