April 2010 Pullets- wanna wait with me?

Ours were hatched Easter weekend- we got our first egg today. It's a little small, but perfect!

I have 2 hatched on 4/4, 3 on 4/11, and 4 on 4/29. 3 are laying, still waiting on the rest.
They seem to starting about a week apart. And I only have one that sings the egg song!

Still no eggs yet. One of my bsl's face is getting pretty red, but I think they're gonna make me wait until next year

What do you know....hubby and I left town for the holiday weekend....17 year old step son is at home taking care of the animals....and we get our first egg this morning...and I'm not home

I had him send me a few pictures of it...small brown speckled egg...and no clue which one it came from.

Super excited....and can't wait to get more!!!

I caught the one that looks the most ready today and checked her vent--it's gonna be a while yet. DW isn't happy, she gotta exists on store bought.

I wouldn't even know what to look for with their vents. Are they bigger when they are close to laying? I don't know if I could find their vent with all that fluff on their butts!

Move the feather out of the way. If they are laying the vent will be wide and moist looking, if not it is puckered up and dry. Mine is someplace between right now.

I have 9 that hatched April 8, 2010 - 8 pullets, one cockerel. The only one showing signs of reproductive maturity is the cockerel! He's just about to find himself a new home!
