April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
My birds hatched 4/30. One of my EE started laying in 9/8 a few days shy of 19 weeks and has given a peewee sized egg every day since. My Barred Plymouth Rock layed on 9/24 and my Black Copper Marans layed on 9/25 at 21 weeks. Also peewee eggs so far from the except one small one from the Barred Rock. They are trending up in size, though. My BCM keeps laying in the run...... I have fake eggs in the nest boxes and the other girls are laying in them. BCM spends time in the boxes and makes a nest in the straw, but then goes and lays in the run Waiting on my other EE and my Speckled Sussex to start laying. They aren't showing any signs that they are close. Maybe they will hold off until spring? I'm in PNW so the days are getting shorter quickly.

It's possible that if the days get too short before laying begins that they will wait till spring. My 2016 chicks were hatched middle of May and they didn't lay until spring.

Guess what! Moonshine, the Sebright pullet has hatched at least 2 of her eggs!!!! She is surely the first April 2017 chick to become a mama! Maybe she could get an honorable mention for that...lol.
chick #3 (3 of 1).jpg
This one I found this morning beside, not under her, cold and limp. I don't know if he crawled out or what, but she was helplessly poking at it. I assumed it was dead, but it began moving in my hand, so I brought it in the house, warmed it up and it has perked right up!. I will slip it under her tonight, if she is definitely caring for the other(s). I can hear peeping from under her, and she hasn't kicked them out so far.

So young, so many achievements!! Wasn't she also your first & most consistent layer?

So I maybe have a new layer. WO and BO are my 2yr layers. 8 non layers. Ugh.

But today I have one smaller and Pinker. Possible SLW egg? Ones in my hand are from the box this morning. Others are my known layers. No squatters though... Hmmm. Supposed to be born first week of April. View attachment 1148140
I love the colors of your eggs! Such a beautiful array of creams & pinks & browns. A subtle and sophisticated palette of warm neutrals :love
