April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
2 days in a row but nothing yet at 9am today.
Same Hen so I am happy, still small eggs. Weight is 1.3 oz and 1.4 oz, 1st and 2nd egg.
@peckpeckpeck I didn't do anything to the play house, just stuck a left over long stake in there for them to roost in during the day and some sand/DE on bottom. They LOVE to roost in there during the day.

Edit to add that when I just went out one other squatted with out me even trying to touch her. Which is what I had been trying to do for the last 2 weeks :)

11am, 1.4 oz egg from Miss Pecan. Not a peep out of her. I went out to water plants and check water for hens and she was in the NEST BOX :yesss:. She had kicked out the fake egg in the 2 nest boxes I have. I had blocked off the extra room on the poop board so it obviously worked.
All about the same size, 2nd egg was a tad larger to look at, but all still very small.
She is my one that looks very thin, all over, like that is how she is built. The other Red is bigger and fluffier.

I moved the pullets from their temporary coop/run (Formex large coop and a 5x20 ft run) into their new coop (10x9 feet) and run (1400 sq feet) Saturday night at dusk. I was thinking I'm not going to be getting any eggs for a few days, but I got 4 yesterday and 4 today so far. I'm going to keep them locked in their new coop for a week and then let them out into the yard but so far it looks like they are enjoying their new coop. I hope I get back up to the 7 eggs (9 would be better) soon. :)

Shoot. If they are layin in it i would go on let em out. As long as it is a closed run and no free rangin. If it comes to it i bet they can be bribed by treats to come in at night. :). We were bad chicken parents when we put ours in their new digs and just let em all out that day. Lol. The first night they were all sittin on the steps at dusk. The second all but two were on the roosts.

That's great! So easy
I butt my playhouse up against the door of their run to extend it. I can't leave them out during the day since we do have predators -- hawks & cats mostly since we put up the fence.
But this way they have something different to hang out in & extra protection from the elements

Btw the girls have been laying 2/3
:wee:wee:fl
Caught them waiting in line while the slacker occupied the nest box for nothing. :pop

Love the color !!! I got my kid shed for free. Still trying to figure out the yard layout and where it will end up. I have Sand in the bottom and now I know what other mean when they say it smells. When it rains it gets smelly. They don't even poop in it much.

I have had 4 eggs out of 5 days form the only one that is laying.
1 other still squatting but I have not seen anyone playing in the nest boxes. I have 2.
Maybe you need to add another box ? How many hens do you have?

I have 3 so 1 nest box should be fine. Except they are all nest hogs. Every time one goes in, she stays for over an hour. Even the freeloader!!! :he
Sometimes they go in a couple times in 1 day. Only lay once or none though.

Maybe that's just because they're young & inexperienced?? How long do hens normally hang out in the nest box to lay?

@adstowe :highfive:
Congrats on your first egg! Such a cutie!!
