They aren't really freeloading...their bodies, in these few short months, are getting ready for a lifetime of almost daily production of nutrition packed eggs. Eggs are truly a super food.Still have freeloaders. Starting to get salty about it.
It is pretty amazing, isn't it!They aren't really freeloading...their bodies, in these few short months, are getting ready for a lifetime of almost daily production of nutrition packed eggs. Eggs are truly a super food.
I've only been getting 2 or 3 daily from 6 pullets (born April 1). I don't know if all 4 leghorns are laying since the most white eggs in a day have been 3. I know the D'Uccle bantam isn't laying yet or even showing signs of. And the Sebright is busy brooding eggs, they are on day 13 now. Eight days to go, and she'll be a mama already! To think six months ago, they were all tiny chicks themselves! It's pretty amazing, if you think about it......

. Yesterday i knew i had a new egglet cause it was so small but thought it was the buff that has been rootin round in the box and leavin no prize. Guess maybe it was the little instead. He said she was in the corner cause THE nest box was occupied.
. Their wattles are tinny. It is pretty amazing, isn't it!
Every time I pick up an egg, I wanna give my ladies a big hug of thanks. They don't seem quite so thrilled with that so so I just tell them they're good girls & toss around some treats.
That said, we're back to a super consistent 1/3 every day. Bunch a squatters... meaning they're all squatting now!!![]()
