The green EE or Americanna is still getting to draw down.

As I was getting ready to close windows and go to bed last night, I heard this weird shreak and about 2 minutes later one of the roosters from my rooster pen started crowing. So I turned on our cow cam and spun it around to look at what I could of the chicken and rooster pens. I am pretty sure I know exactly what got my Silkie roo....a ginormous raccoon. Biggest one I have ever seen! He has got to be as wide as a metal trash can, 2 feet tall, and 3 feet long! When I first saw him, my first reaction was "What the heck is a bear doing in Nebraska?!" (I could not see his tail at that time.) I had borrowed my in-laws live coyote trap (in case it was a fox) and had it set but unbaited next to the night run where the ducks tend to hang out. He never went in. But when I saw him leave, I ran out with a container of scraps and relocated it to the front of the night run. I apparently caught him as the trap was sprung.....but he managed to get the door support unhooked and got out! Hubby says to set the regular raccoon size live trap, but I am not sure he will fit! So I guess I will set both traps tonight and see if I can get him.

Unreal. It's huge! You're lucky it just took out one rooster. We get racoons or other varmints on occasion and the loses are catastrophic. Like 20+ bird in 1 night. No survivors. 😢

When I was growing up, my parents had a flock of chickens, peacocks (like 6 of them), and pigeons. A whole family of raccoons got into the night pen and got everything but 1 pigeon. It was horrible. I thought for sure it was going to be a fox because there was no blood or drag marks....but as big as this guy is, I can see how he could have just carried him off!
