I only have 1 incubator but i might have ducklings in april cause my runner seems to be broody! I will probably set some more chicken eggs as soon as the ones in their hatch

will do, planning on hatching on sebright crosses, as well as trying to get some really dark layers. The dad will be a penedeseca so only setting the darkest eggs of the hens

I’m totally going to try. I have plans for 4 breeding groups already and only have coops for 3 So I guess 2 more breeding pens will be my summer goal.

I have to build another coop and a duck house, and some breeding pens if I can get away with it . I've already been promised a coop and duck house, so I just have to sneak the breeding pens in there somehow lol.

I'm going to give it another shot with the borrowed ancient relic of an incubator. Still sad after my disastrous first attempt at incubating and hatching. We set 22, only 1 hatched and we had to put Uno down 2 days later due to birth defects. Staying positive though we have 38 eggs in the incubator this time all will be backyard mixes. My roo is a Barred Holland and my girls are Australorps, BO, RIR, a Silver Laced Wyandotte, and an EE that lays pink eggs.

Thank you! My husband took pity on me when we lost all but Uno and said I could have 4-5 babies from the farm supply store... we came home with 9 to keep him company. Then we had to put Uno down that night. But I have the hatching fever and i want to get some babies from my own birds to help rebuild my father in laws aging flock.

I remember reading about Uno. It's so sad when they dont make it . I had a TSC chick die last night. Not sure why, I think just low vigor from being shipped and all that other stress they go through. Naturally, I snuck 4 more in the brooder today to replace him. We have so many right now my husband would never know the difference to be honest .

I'm also hatching chicks this year partly to help out someone else! Our family friends have an aging flock that they were hoping to get eggs from. They have 6 kids so they go through a LOT of eggs. I'm going to set aside some pullets for them this year in exchange for their homemade maple syrup .

Looks like I'll be joining this hatch along as well. I bought 12 mixed breed duck eggs today! The seller only has 2 males to 30 hens so she was hesitant to sell them as "hatching eggs". Since I only want 2-3 ducklings, she was 4 minutes from my house, and reasonably priced at @3/dozen I decided to take my chances. I went back and forth a few times on if I should hatch some or buy from a farm store. Guess we now know which way I leaned. They were added to the incubator this evening.
