April 2020 Hatch-A-Long! All are welcome!

@gmjarvi can you tell me how to set a range and alarms? I bought a new govee and using it for this hatch. Love the app but didn’t see anywhere to set a range/alarm.
I haven't jumped ahead to see if anybody has answered you on this, but go to your "Devices" tab and then tap your hygrometer. It should take you to the page with the graphs. At the top right corner is a little gear..tap that to get to settings. There you can change the name and set the alert settings. Sorry for the delayed response! My notifications have been wonky.

The chick that is zipped I think was the first pip and it may have just freaked out mama. I think she pecked at the shell and ripped half the shell off, because half the shell is missing, the membrane is solid white. She is obsessively sitting now and movi nc around the other hatching eggs but moved this one out of the nest. I brought it inside and the membrane still has tons of blood vessels. I can’t see breathing but it chipped twice at me.

that egg is in the bator now. I actually feel okay about the rest of them and her if they’ll zip out while undeneath her hoping instinct will kick in.
I'm so behind, but I had almost this exact same thing happen to me, although I'm not sure why she freaked and pecked the egg. I was able to help it hatch! Good luck 💖

I have an endless supply of dried pine needles (we have lots of forest)- can I use these in the brooder, newspaper is hard to come by and I hate wood shavings. I have hay- but not straw. Pine needles would be my first choice to use, though...thoughts?
Only thing I would caution with pine needles is that they are EXTREMELY flammable. I probably wouldn't use them if I were also using a heat lamp. Brooder plate would be no problem.

That is a good point. But they will be in our living room for the first few days ... I will keep an eye on them, or just use newspaper.
Thanks

GUYS, I feel so dumb 🤦‍♀️. I have had a hard time keeping track of days this time around and I thought it was D16, but it's actually D19. I went to go lockdown, thinking I was even early to lockdown, and there are THREE external pips in there and more eggs wiggling and peeping. I stopped turning them a couple days ago, but hadn't taken the turner out or added shelf liner. Sorry little chickies! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I think I joined this thread some time ago... followed people's hatches, then my eggs hatched and I got overwhelmed, and totally forgot about this thread! I had a great hatch from my shipped eggs and now have 15 fuzz balls that are 1 week old and getting less and less fuzzy... 4 will go back to the woman who let me borrow her incubator, and 11 are staying with me and starting my first flock. They are a mix of different colors of Orpingtons and Barnevelders. They are SO much fun!!! :love
