April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
Just set some chicken eggs in the last two days. 6 Lavender Fibro EE eggs and 6 Fibro eggs from what are supposed to be straight blue layers. Also set 7 more aztec eggs on thursday. So all these eggs should be hatching between the 21- 25 of this month.

I might have an addiction, but at least it is one that isn't going to kill me unless the birds go rabid. :woot

Day 4, just candled 22 eggs. The 19 silkie eggs are all developing.
The 3 appenzeller eggs (were meant to be appenzeller/silkie cross) are not. I'm inclined to think the silkie roos couldn't woo the much smarter hen. But I'll candle those three again on day 7 and toss if they're still clear. It was just to satisfy my own curiosity of what would come of it anyway, overall I'm happy to see so many silkies are developing.
Let's hope for a good hatch!

Yay!!! :wee I just candled my eggs... out of 76 eggs 61 are fertilized!
Last time my yellow breeding group had a new rooster and the fertility rate was at about 1/4..... of 42 eggs I had to take out 30 plus one that had died. This time out of 30 eggs 20 were fertile. That makes me very very happy!
my green breeding group only 1 egg out of 30 was infertile. That boy knows what he's doing!!! :thumbsup
Blue (the older ladies) I had to take out 3 out of 14.
And red I only put one egg in and it was fertile.
All in all it looks pretty good! :fl:fl:fl

Well, our six month old broody hen gave up almost immediately. After a day of screaming at everyone who got near her she laid an egg and finally went out in the yard, had the world's largest poop (good news for future broodiness that she figured that out) and then decided she wasn't into it anymore. We had closed the small run to keep her undisturbed, but not being able to get out was the thing she found disturbing. Oh well. Instead I ordered eggs shipped that hopefully we will have in the incubator next week :)

Hi @wolfwalker ,how are your Alohas doing?😊
they are doing great. Growing like weeds in high humidity and sunshine LOL..The only down side is, I set 72 eggs from my aloha flock last month and had 1 hatch. :( seems the roosters had an aiming problem, I watched them, mate and a friend told me to try to find a video called 50 shades of chicken so they can see how it should happen. LOL just what I want to be known for, chicken porn.

This month, so far, knock on wood, all the aloha eggs are developing so it seems at least one of them learned how to do his job. The roosters are over a year old, so it is not youth that is the issue.

shakes head sadly at being told to show my roosters 50 shades of chicken.

Gorgeous chickens! 😊Sorry for the low hatch rate, I just saw a video on how to do AI, as my silkie roo seems to be having similar issues. Not sure I am quite ready to go that route yet! Maybe he needs to see 50 shades of chicken!🤣
