April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
Have I think 9 more moving ready to pip or already pipped and zipping.

....However I’ve got 7 that show no movement. I took one apart. Fully formed maybe a day or so behind the others, no movement, removed from egg already deceased. Took three of the remaining 6 and put small inspection holes, and they are either fully or near fully formed but no movement. They even still have the minor finger veins.
Remaining three I’ve left in untouched but without much hope I’m afraid.

advice or input welcomed. Last hatch was about 50%. This one appears to be near 70%.

I’m using an old model 9200 still air. I’m not sure when they started making them this one may be more than 10 years old but it still seem to work well. It’s borrowed from my neighbor in exchange for the extra roosters. I may shift eggs around to reach it better. If the humidity holds steady I shouldn’t have to add more water before I candle.
I didn’t think about not needing to add water. I filled those channels to the top. It probably won’t need more but I did think ahead. 🤔 That means I’m making progress, right??? I candled about 5 eggs and saw some veining and dark masses. I keep saying I need a better light but never get one. What do y’all use?

Yea, I’ve done a bit of research and read many many documents, walkthroughs or listened/watched YouTube’s on it. I know it seems like a real crap shoot. I’m sure there is somethings I can do better. This is only my second hatch after all. And while they aren’t my own eggs they are local and I’ll say significantly better chances than shipped so to speak.

Would you by chance know about these bumps on the heads of these silkies? One with and one without.

I don’t:hmm. I will say that if I understood correctly 75% is considered a good hatch rate for a at home hatch depending on breed. At least your hatch rates are going up that means you are headed in the right direction!

Well I’m pretty sure my hatch is finished.
23 eggs to start, 22 to lock down, (many missed turnings). 7 failed to hatch or pip after drawing down. Many pipped on the wrong end of the egg, all got out in assisted with one exception; A full size/LF chick.

It pipped early in the hatch and wasn’t ready to move along for the longest time. I’ve now helped it as much as I think I should before heading to work this am. And I think a hatchmate may have done them dirty by pecking at his yolk that wasn’t completely absorbed. I’ve got light brown/yellow fluid leakin g from the egg. But it’s still moving and peeping. So who knows. It may make it.
