April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

No I got mine directly from a breeder in New Jersey whose a member of the breed club. I can't wait to see yours too!
Oh okay, that's smart! :D I got my from Red Roof Hens in NC, I'm excited to see them, they should be black. The one that was potentially going to be self-blue didn't develop sadly. I watched an eBay bid last week for 9 watermaal eggs...started at $25 and finished at $187.50!! Too rich for my blood haha, so I am happy with my two hehe.

All resistant birds since the vaccinated breeding stock I bought. I read somewhere where they are debating whether resistance is passed on via the hen into the chick from the vaccination.

Last year I hatched Egyptian Fayoumi chicks from my breeding stock and have hatched two roosters from them and my barnyard cross stock that were also resistant. So far so good. I haven't had an obvious Marek's death in almost 5 years, cross fingers, knock on wood and cross myself three times and I'm not even Catholic.
Well done. You must be so proud for overcoming it. ☺️

I'm not sure if I'm dealing with it but I have a cockerel suddenly unable to stand up since last week and I'm a bit scared, especially with 22 chicks in the brooder and another 24 eggs in the incubator at the moment. All I can do is hope it's not it, but it's good to know there's hope even if the worst comes to be.

I hope your hatch goes well!

I know Red Roof! They're a member of the breed club also, they got some of their foundation birds from the same person the breeder I got my eggs from got her foundation birds from, so our birds are going to be related after all! And yeah the eBay bid for eggs can get a bit wild from what I've seen. It's nice to see more people getting interested in the breed though!

I hadn't heard of the Watermaal until you peeps started talking about them. What pretty little birds! Wonder if there are any available in Canada...

Sweet! How fun 😍 I have tried several times to win watermaal breeding pairs at the shows but never win 😆 So we will see how this goes! They are so adorable and such a fun twist on my d’Anvers 😍

Ohh you should find them, they should be around there somewhere! Maybe the Watermaal Club could help you find some ❤️

show her pictures of how cute they are and see if that helps? that's what I did with my parents

I've *barely* got her accepting my OEGB. I talked to her today about setting breeding pens/coops for specific breeds and she turned all nasty on me. I'm trying to convince her by telling her it's so we can be more self-sufficient, being able to sell chicks to pay for the food from the meat and egg birds. I got such a dirty look from her! :lau

I placated her with one of the baby bunnies later.
