April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

And I think that’s a wrap! One egg looks 99% certain dead and the second has veins, it mightttttt have been set later 🫠 I really need to start marking dates! Everyone moved downstairs and using the hated heat lamp since I can’t fit two heating pad caves in there… The week old chicks are sunbathing with it though! So cute!

Well, I'm baa-aaaaaack! Not that I ever stopped hatching, I just didn't feel like torturing everyone with my weekly hatches.

I have a dozen Cuckoo Silkie (and two Blue-Cream to tide me over until my dozen of those come later) eggs coming to me from Bobbi Porto, due to arrive the 6th. If I set them the 8th, they will be due to hatch the 29th, which happens to be my birthday - what can I say, fluffy presents are the best!

I also have a singular Blue/Splash Silkie egg due to hatch the 8th, and 12 due the 14th...

Editing to add, that if you use a NR360 and hatch bantam eggs, I can not more highly sing the praises of the 30 egg turner I purchased from CourdtCreations on Etsy. And the hatching divider and riser.

I’m about 2/3 through this mega hatch. I pulled out a round of fluff balls from the dickeys and the 360 because they were overstuffed and getting too crowded!

The pile of chicks in the 360 was actually causing temperature problems because they were piled in the middle around the thermometer. It started reading up to 103! Which I think was just caused by fluff induced heat pockets but it was making me nervous.

The eggs in brinsea are lagging behind still only 4 hatched in that bunch so I left them alone. I’m not sure if it’s due to the temp in there being lower or because the eggs came from a lowers shelf in the dickeys but I suspect the latter.

I combine the remaining eggs from the Dickey’s into the 360 so that is now stuffed again. I want to give the eggs still incubating in cabinet a break from the high humidity so I’m hoping to finish up in the smaller 2 in time to put my Buckeye eggs in for Easter hatch 🐣

Anyway mega fluff pile
