April Babies Egg Watch Thread

Yea my sapphire gem does seem to be behind. Funny how they all mature differently. I’d love a cream colored egg!

I just set up a trail cam, not really it’s purpose but hopefully I can find out for sure who’s laying
how old are they? Mine will be 20 weeks on Wed (I think that is right) and the 2nd one hasn't laid yet. I think she is CLOSE but then again with the squatting I thought she would have by now so unless I am mixing them up and she is laying then I was wrong. LOL

I have a camera in my coop facing my nest boxes. LOL I got it last year so I could see who was laying. I LOVE IT! I have to move it now since we added another nest box and the angle the camera is at I can't see in the nest box. My only problem is I have 4 blue chickens, 2 blue rocks, a cochin and a Blue EE. While in person they all look different with the shadows in the nest box sometimes it is hard to tell who is who. my EE has cheeks. The Blue rocks one has a bigger comb that flops, the other is smaller and still stands up straight and my Cochin is round (and broody right now so pretty easy to tell when it is her but she is a bit Ditzy (which happens to be her name) and swaps nest boxes so she will throw me off sometimes) but when they are all puffed up in the nest boxes it takes me a bit to figure out who is who. LOL

That’s a good idea to put a camera in the coop, I’ve been thinking about it. Right now mine is outside just pointing at the coop, since my chicks don’t normally go inside during the day, whoever I can catch going in should be the egg layer. Also my chicks are all different breeds so it’s easy to tell them apart. Im amazed you can identify yours by their little differences and personalities ❤️.

It isn't easy telling the 2 of the same breeds apart! Especially on camera. I also have 2 light Brahmas that are a bit over a year old. One has a bigger head and a bit more black on her but no way to tell on camera who was who. So I put a food coloring stripe on the head of one when they started laying so I could tell who was who. Their eggs are completely different though. One has darker eggs with purple spots, the others are a lighter solid tan. What is funny is so far with my 10 layers all their eggs look different so I can tell whose are whose. Even though most lay "brown/tan" they are different shades, shapes some are more matte, some shinier etc. Sure as the others start to lay I ont be able to. Lol.

See my teens LOVE to hang out and play in the coop even before they started laying, maybe since I brooded in the coop??? So at least half of the day there are at least a couple in there. So seeing who goes in does me no good. Almost all of them have been in a nest box checking it out a handful or more times

These two ladies have been teasing me with their bright red combs and yet... nada. Hatched April 6th.

@BuddingGardener , I know! They are so sweet, and I love sitting out with them. This is one of today's 18 week pictures I took today. A 'comb check' group photo.
L to R: April & Autumn (EEs), FavieBaby & Bubbles (Faverolles), and Mocha (CCL).
As babies, April's green non-fearhered legs were the only way we could tell her apart from the Favs. She even has the 5 toes!❣️

Hatched April 25th (My birthday!), from MPC, we ordered 15 chicks.
Our flock(s) before this consists of 4 roos, 2, 5, 6, and 9 yrs, 12 hens 2-4 yrs, and 9 hens from 5-9 yrs. Averaging 7 eggs a day, most being 12, least 3 per day. Needed more babies!!
Ordered 15: 2 mottled houdans, & 2 BL polish for DH,
2 faverolles & 2 buckeyes for our big boys (a buff orp and a production red)
2 crested cream legbars for blue eggs
2 green queen EEs for green eggs
and 3 assorted EEs for surprise eggs.
None of the 5 EEs were banded, and 2 identical chick's became 2 identical cockerels, who found new homes (I suspect they were the GQs)

My first egg came on 8/22, 17 wks+1 day, from Peckerino, (formerly known as mystery EE #4) !! She has given me one every day!
On pins & needles waiting on the rest! 🥰
pretty eggs
