Hmm, you could SPRAY PAINT it yourself for CUSTOM COLORS and PATTERNS! Very cool art project! Just mask off the screen & label with masking tape & have at it!

PATTERNS that could look neat:

To do speckles, you could dip a paint brush in some paint & then flick it at the phone.

Smoothly combine different shades by spraying sweeps of different spray paint colors immediately right after each other so they are wet at the same time and blend well.

You could paint intricate Easter egg designs.
* Can anyone suggest what kind of paint would be most durable for this kind of project?

General recommendations:

If you’re doing spray paint, it would probably be useful to add a second or third coat (after the previous one dries) so the color would still be there if the first coat gradually wore off.

Spray one or two clear coats (You can find “clear” color in the spray paint section at stores. Make sure the label says it is “non-yellowing.”) on top of your finished egg, for “bloom” to preserve your beautiful work.

I would suggest trying out your entire planned painting technique on another object or paper first, to make sure it will work the way you're aiming for.
* Can anyone suggest a common object with a surface similar to the phone’s, that would be particularly good for experimenting on? (If you paint an object like that, you could also test out how well the paint holds when you rub it.)
