Announcement April Fools 2013 - Big Announcement: BYC & Mark Zuckerberg / Facebook Partnership - BeakBook

Almost all the major sites had gags today. Some disallowed the use of vowels. Classic. Others proclaimed they were shutting down, for various reasons, etc. All part of breaking up the internet humdrums I guess. Harmless fun for those who hadn't left their sense of humor in the other shirt pocket.

I don't think it's a good idea. You will lose the homey feeling that BYC has now and then they will want u to pay for everything u want to look at. I hope it stays the way that it is now. I'm about to delete my Facebook so I would then have no connection to BYC if you do connect with Facebook

My sense of humor left when this president was re-elected :sick

I'm a big facebooker, I've been on Facebook for years. That being said, I'm not seeing where Beakbook would be a new or an improved idea. In fact, unless I'm not understanding how it would work, we already have Beakbook built into our regular Facebook via using facebook's ability to create groups and lists within your existing friends.

At present I already have friends on FB that are only friends because of their interest in or FB page on chickens. Some are persons, some are businesses, some are organizations, and some are just quirky FB pages about chickens. I already share photos, info, stories, and ask questions of them. As I'm understanding it, Beakbook would be very similar but would be a different social networking group. I'd have to go into a different page, different log in, different password. And I'd only see my Beakbook friends on that page. I can do the very same thing via creating a "Poultry Friends" list on my current FB page and not need to open a second tab, sign up a second time, remember another password.

Unless there's something new on Beakbook that we've not been told about, this appears to be a duplicate of what we already have available through FB. IMO, Beakbook already exists within the current design of Facebook and I don't see the need for a duplicate social network just for poultry friends. As far as the name "Beakbook", I personally don't find it appealing. But, hey, maybe that's just me.

I'm sure it would be exciting to work with and to be associated with Mark Zuckerberg and I'm also sure the Winklevoss twins felt the same way at one time. IMO, proceed with caution.

Well I do STRONGLY believe in making chickens equal to dogs in cats in our day and age. If this is one step closer towards chicken equality then I support it 100% <3
I'm a big Facebooker too and mashing chickens in would be pure bliss! I'm sure some people would leave Facebook but who cares!? If they don't like chickens then TOUGH!!! My chickens are my loves and I treat them like some treat their fu-fu chihuahuas and yorkies... Lol! I highly believe in the keeping of chickens, I think more people should have them and not be afraid of them. Petsmart kicked me out for carrying my bantam in, from fear I guess. Fear is what keeps us from change. Change and progress is a good thing. Chickens for all <3

This is fantastic news for BYC and the potential for helping the chicken keeping movement seems great... "Beakbook" is genius and look forward to the successful partnership and learning more about how it will be done. Whatever happens, BYC will continue to be the best internet community ever!

I don't think Facebook and BYC should have a complete mash up... But chickens should definitely be incorporated into Facebook. Perhaps a link that is always readily available on the Facebook homepage to BYC and chicken themed stuff on Facebook :-]
Many haters will arise from it from the Facebook side. Trust me. I have "liked" the goofy and offensive pages ran by teenage or college-esque admins, under names like "Pinhead Larry" or some other notable, popular fictional character. They will be crazy for some time but if they don't like it they will leave.
