Announcement April Fools 2013 - Big Announcement: BYC & Mark Zuckerberg / Facebook Partnership - BeakBook

Love the name- beakbook--which leads me to believe that this will not be just an other facebook page, but rather a 'chicken network.'

I assume you will maintain our forums here on backyard chickens? I cannot imagine the facebook format indexing all of our conversations. But I do like the idea of spreading the word on keeping happy healthy chickens for both pleasure and good nutrition.

Looking forward to the details.

OMG! It's already happening

What do you mean?
Thanks for those great comments! We definitely understand your concerns and we want to be sensitive to those types of issues as things progress.

Don't worry though, we think you'll be VERY VERY pleasantly surprised by what we have in store.

In fact, keep you eyes peeled for some really interesting updates before the end of the day!

  1. What do you think about this new partnership? Well I'm not one of his fans and I know he's reading this, so he'll probably drop my FB account.
  2. Do you “Like” our Facebook Page with over 43,000 likes? It's ok, but I visit here all the time and even when I'm on FB, which is daily, I don't visit the page.
  3. How do you like the name “BeakBook” Sounds like a Harry Potter character!!! Who came up with that one????????????
  4. If you were going to combine the best of FaceBook and the best of BYC, what would you like to see? The FB part gone
  5. What other ideas do you have to help get the idea of raising backyard chickens even more solidified in the consciousness of the general public? I say use the money from Gold Feather and Platinum and make some TV commercials. Get some news media envolved. Anything but FB. Geez they have a monopoly on everything.

Can you imagine having what? Thousands of people on FB and then a newbie asking a question? It would be so far back, they'd never see it! No answers, everything buried. wow

  1. What do you think about this new partnership? I support whatever you think is best for the BYC community, because you have brought us this far, you aren't gonna just throw us all under the bus... but that is my concern, the money. I know I joined a site years ago and within a year it partnered with someone and began asking it's members who had been there years, to pay money to stay. It sucked, and I hope BYC doesn't ever force us to pay money to stay and be a chicken-enthusiast's.
  2. Do you “Like” our Facebook Page with over 43,000 likes? Yes I do. :)
  3. How do you like the name “BeakBook” I do like the name in a way, but it may not appeal to other people who visit the page for the first time... maybe "BirdBook" or like someone suggested earlier, "FeatherBook"
  4. If you were going to combine the best of FaceBook and the best of BYC, what would you like to see? I would like to see live messages that can go back and forth to members, like PM's but in the format facebook uses, live.
  5. What other ideas do you have to help get the idea of raising backyard chickens even more solidified in the consciousness of the general public? Advertisements on TV or somewhere else, because surely people would visit the website if they have chickens and are people like us. (crazy.) Jk.

This is a great idea!! I try to educate people on how animals are treated in the factory farms around the US - even though we have laws, the animals' lives are still compromised for the sake of a cheap meal. With a food revolution occuring in the US, now is the perfect time to promote home-grown food (or close to home with supporting a local farmer). We provide eggs to family and friends, and they can't get enough - plus, we love having our chickens, so it is a win-win. I currently "follow" a few farms/friends with their chickens (and other animals) on Facebook - it is great to see other peoples' activites, updates, photos - for ideas, advice, suggestions, and the occasional hatching egg or chick/chicken swap. Being able to share this type of information and build a relationship, even if it is on-line and far apart geographically, it is a great community to belong to - and fusing FB and BYC seems like a natural idea - way to go! And, thank you Mark!!
