so far my goose eggs are on track for april 11 or 12. Here's to hoping. My hubby turned for me yesterday since I had to work a double and I don't think he got the lid on just real straight. Temp was down last night when I got home and so was the humidity. I could still see movement in the few I checked. Didn't dally around.. wanted to get them warmed up again. back up this morning..

Bec, What color is the light from your flashlight? The reason I ask, In my experience a blue light should make the reds and oranges of the egg show up better. I have this info from a bit of a strange source. When keeping fish in an aquarium, Blue light will make orange and red fish show their colors better while a yellow light will make blues and purples show up better. Since what is being looked for in an egg is either Orange or red, a blue light will cause them to show up better.

Well just candled the 87 eggs I got from the poultry show. Not good but I knew probably wouldn't be. only 15 eggs are growing with 2 or 3 of them questionable. Oh well.

that makes sense... where do you get a blue light I wonder. I spent 75 dollars on my flashlight.. don't want to buy another one. Is there a way to make a lens you think?

I just put 21 eggs from my hens in my incubator this morning (I might throw in a few more that I collect throughout the day today). This is my very first time using an incubator. I bought a still air Hova-Bator model 1602. Normally I would let my pullets/hens sit on them, but only one of my hens is broody right now, my Blue Cochin, and I can't get her to sit on eggs! Anyways, I have mixtures of the following in my clutch -

Australorp x Australorp
Australorp x Jersey Giant
Australorp x Cochin
Australorp x Rock

I'm so eager to see what their colors will be! By the way, the Australorp is the daddy

! I'm going to be turning the eggs every 8 hours, so three times. In about 5 days I'm going to candle them to see how far the developmental process has gone.

I have one question though...I preheated the incubator last night and got it up to 100 degrees, and then I noticed when the temperature in my room dropped, so did the incubating temperature. It dropped down to 98. Should I just raise the temperature again every morning when I wake up or is there something I could do to keep it stable?

I am in if you can call it that. I have a broody EE that has been sitting for a week now. I just hope her eggs are ok. I went out yesterday and she was on the wrong nest and her eggs were cold.
