I use a semi-powerful LED light my dad got from Costco, personally, and it does an fantastic job! I could even see toes moving around one time I candled.

oh ok... thanks for sharing. My Dad has a powerful flash light like that. I will ask to borrow it to see if it works. Thanks!

Check out page 1 of my post. See "My Candling." When you candle on (day 7 or 10, then day 14, then lastly day 18) look for the air cell (wide end of egg), dark mass/chick (in the middle area) which will grow, & the clear egg white (at the pointed end).

Oh & candle in the dark, sometimes the only dark room in my house at night is the closet. Good luck with that!

okay I figured it out posting pics (I hope!) here are my babies

What I notice the most is: that they know my voice, didn't stress out, no pasty butts, didn't drink water like my hatchery birds-they drink but were not really ever thirsty so I really think I'm hooked on this and my birds are looking bigger sooner which makes sense. I have Red Bourbon turkeys in the oven right now with some Black Copper Marans to hatch 4/23 and I have another set of Blue Coppers, Welsummers and some White Rock/Cornish cross due 4/27. Plan on some more turkeys and some Red Silkies but those will hatch in May.

Oh and these are Delawares and looks like maybe 8 or 9 meaties not cornishx but looks like Red Ranger/Naked Necks and 5 marans. I had 31 hatch from 36 and 5 out of 15. Not bad for shipped eggs.

Tomorrow is day 21. I'm so excited and worried, the temp in my LG still air has been super steady but around 99*. I hope at least one of the 15 hatch. We candled at 15 days and all were moving. My little girl will be. so heartbroken if none of them hatch.

I have them in cardboard egg cartons, and added a wet sponge and two lids of water. She is being a little momma hen, and is staring at them all day long, but won't let anyone open or touch the bator.

All the babies on here are so cute! I so hope we get a few.

but my temps went up and down last time for some reason but this time staying steady hatch day for me is 4/19 and 4/26 (ducks) and I am tempted to add more at this point but not sure if I should our ducks have laid a few more and I really would like to get some more nankins going

I am thinking that might be a far enough gap for a staggered hatch??

So far I have removed to duck eggs (they where totally clear) and it looks like one of our japs is not forming maybe a blood ring...to afraid to take that one out! But I have one jap egg that the embryo seems to be stuck to the side. When I candled on day 8 I saw it's heart beating but now it looks bigger but looks to be stuck to the side

But with the lethal gene we expect some not to hatch.
