April Hatch Along

Pics
Well, my amazing luck hatching cockerels continues...
Or, let's put it this way:
Last Biele hatch = 1 pullet
This Biele hatch = 1 pullet
A couple months ago, Biele hatch = 1 pullet
The hatch before that = 2 pullets (at the time I was bummed to have so few....little did I know!)
So. I think I may actually have enough females for a small breeding program someday, and it only took me 4 hatches to get there!!
Oh, and if anybody needs a Bielefelder cockerel - I've got "just" a few.

All of my bielefelder hatches have been later. In fact, their development, over all, seems a little slower than other breeds.

1 Cochin zipping....4 pipping. Bieles..nothing. I hope you are right! The Biele eggs are the ones that got shaken and one broken ..... at my own PO just minutes before I picked them up! :( Last weeks Welsh Harlequin eggs(that I ordered for new blood in my flock) got here a day early so the jerk sent them out on the mail route for a day. :(

I totally commiserate with your post office woes... I'm waiting to hear about 6 chicks I won on a BYC auction that were supposed to be shipped overnight.... We are on day 2 now, and I'm so worried that they won't be alive by the time they get here. Kind of dreading the call from the PO.

Project Broody - strike one.
Well, that was a total fail. It was just a little too light, and she could see her way out to pace and cluck at the fence line. I will try again tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I have another idea because she can't stay where she is - it's way too busy with 27 hens coming in and out to lay eggs and two noisy roosters trying to "show" the hens which nesting boxes to use....

Did you put her in that area with the cute little A-frame? Maybe just leave her there for today and see if she settles back on those eggs?

3 out running around, 4 still working hard to get out, only 17 more to go.

C'mon little chickies

Can you tell frizzles at hatch? This little guy is black and yellow and his "fuss" seems long. But yeah....one out! Yay!

Are these the cochin eggs from my girls??

The yellow (mostly around the face?) is because their father is mottled, they will be carrying mottled genes. Won't be able to tell frizzles for a few more days. As soon as the wings start growing real ones, they start to curl outward.

I have now had to pull 2 Biele eggs for oozing orange gunk. :( I had a bad feeling all along that these eggs actually got SHAKEN at the PO. Another Cochin zipping and my own 4 BR eggs I added...1 pipping, 3 shaking and wiggling. So everything but the Bieles showing progress. I'm not giving up yet...just ranting. No idea how you deal with a NASTY postmaster. :( Anybody have a clue? I have goslings coming next week and now I fear for their LIFE.

3 Cochins hatched, 3 pipping...
