April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Hip Hip Hooray! My very first incubated chick just hatched! Itt took about 17 hours after noticing a slight pipping crack this morning. Nothing much happened after that except for occasional chirping. Most of the hatching itself only took about an hour. She is fast asleep now.

I hope to wake up to more good news in the morning.

Second chick here, third on the way! The first (on left) I believe is a Buff Rock. The darker one I'm not sure. It looked like a Barred Rock, but as it dries it is sort of changing. The alternative options are Blue Orp, Lav Orp, Blue Copper Marans, Blue Wyandotte, or Silver Phoenix. White tips on her wings.

At least 2 more are pipping and lots of internal movement from others. My Navy Son said, "I WANT VIDEO!"

Awesome - I love them - I want chicks!!!!!!!!!

Vent away - I feel your pain ! My eggs were the wrong colour and not Dorkings at all. One was splatered all over the packaging and one came apart because it was stuck to the goo. Now a third is growing in a completely fractured egg which I have now had to cover with wax to try to save! - Go for it girl ! If you feel you didn;t get what you paid for then go for it.

For me I am sad that these are not what I thought DH was buying but I wanted a blue laying hen so it could work to my advantage so I am not that upset if only a hen chick would be hatched. Just my luck though all these will be roooooooooooooosters! - or Lizards?

Oes
maybe they will be really cool exotic lizards haha

yea I paid way more than I should have for only 4 eggs!!!!!
Annabell, it seems to me that you are in the right and they are trying to use loopholes in verbage in order to make some cash. Your email was pretty specific in the Standard size request. TMHO!
I though SO!!!!!!! I hate when people try to bully others into submission.....

Annabell I can see how this is frustrating. I was with the breeder up until you posted the last email saying they were standard for Hamburgs. However you're pretty much stuck since they offer no refund or return and it is clearly stated on their site. You have the right to complain but keep in mind BYC has a policy against posting attacks against specific sellers.

May I ask why you aren't wanting bantams? They can live with the others just fine :)

yes, I have both, but I sell eggs to paid for bird food and give all 9 Great Danes an egg a night + the eggs we eat and give away so the bantams just give less... I will keep the ones we have.... but did not want more.... the only reason I paid what they aked 30$ for 4 eggs...... is because I though they were standard I can find bantam sized many places for less

here was the last email

"Ann, as stated below, the standard size for Citron Spangled Hamburgs is considered bantam. This color, to the best our knowledge, is only available in bantam size. Dan Powell was the creator of this color and size, an no one has worked on a larger version. We sold you eggs for the standard size of this color and breed."

Should I even respond back????

I don't think it's worth it at this point. *shrug*

So you didn't know that they were only in bantam size?

Your right they are wrong, they misrepresented and are talking about blackmail to scare you into being quiet and giving up. I would keep at them.

Annabell - At the moment I don;t think you have done anything wrong on the BYC site as you have not mentioned the name of this breeder - you have every right to vent and be upset and get support and advice. But do be careful not to get us shut down - lol - my LIZARDS ARE NOT HATCHED YET!!!

Anna, I'd try the credit card route Oz suggested. It's not worth it to argue back and forth with someone who thinks they're that in the right, and will only stress you out more over it. Move on to happier things so you can feel better.

Hope everyone's hatch is going well.
