April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

I just got three more pips in the last 3 minutes! 5 pips out of 13 eggs so far. The first pip from this morning hasn't done anything, and the 2nd pip from 12:45pm hasn't done anything either...come on chickies!!

I knew chickens could store sperm, but I had no idea if or how long ducks could. Then, I didn't know you could incubate duck eggs at the same time as chicken eggs, so they all went in the fridge. I've since learned differently, so again, Why not? :D My duck is very young - somewhere close to 24 weeks. She was bought with the drake as ducklings at the fair in October by the teenage daughter of a friend of my DH. She thought ducks would make good city limits housepets. :rofl Her father disagreed, and we ended up with the pair. Poor duck, all alone now. If I fail at hatching her eggs, I have lined up some proper hatching eggs. She needs company other than the chickens.
Candled the three eggs I set and they're all clear. Bummer. Will not have any April hatchings. I'll be picking up some Khaki Campbell duck hatching eggs this Saturday for the Cinco de Mayo Hatchathon.

5 babies in a bucket. #6 hadn't made any progress since yesterday so I picked away a bit of the shell and opened the membrane just enough for it to breathe. I sure hope it makes it out by the morning. I added more hot water to my sponges to keep the humidity up so hopefully that will do the trick.

had a pip in the shell this evening around 6pm.....by 845 it was already zipped and out!....and best of all....got the fun part on VIDEO!!!!!....5 minutes or so!....now gotta figure out how to put it here....

first ever success at hatching!.....dry incubation and dry hatch!.......that is awesome!!!....

now the little thing wont keep quiet!....lol....still drying off in the hatcher!

SOOOOOO HAPPY.......hubby not so much...because now he knows what will take over the garage.....

my first-time (both for her and for me!) broody girl, a Basque hen named Eleanor, is sitting on 10 eggs, as of saturday afternoon -- so looking forward to April 20 or 21? the eggs are 4 birchen marans, 4 swedish flower hens, and 2 SFH/cream legbar crosses. here's a picture of my determined girl!

Aww, I hope she does well!!! I have 3 basque, but they are still babies. So far they are looking like 2 girls & 1 boy :)

I LOVED LOVED LOVED my bourbons! I'm so jealous!
Oh I am so glad to hear this- not that you're jealous LOL- but that you loved them so much! I don't know anyone who has any, but I loved the look size of them. I read they had a good temperment too. I hope my hatch goes well with them
