April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

So exciting to read about others who are hatching soon! I have 42 barnyard mix eggs going. Today is day 4 and I am eager to see how it goes! Already we have had 1 accident when my toddler got to the incubator and cracked one egg, but I used candle wax on it and am hand turning it for now, hoping it survives. We're going to candle them tonight and Im hoping to see some changes!

Good luck tonight. I too have a toddler with busy hands. I know the fear all to well. :)

I will join also, I have 16 Pure Black Jeresy Giants, due on 4/3/2013. I am gathering more as we speak, to refill next week.

Well, I actually came here thinking I would join for the hatch I am setting later this month, but after reading the first few posts, maybe I should mention my barnyard mix eggs that will be hatching next week!

I ordered some eggs to hatch on my own at home, but won't receive them till near the 15th. But I also donated a big bunch of eggs to a local preschool to hatch. Part of their farm unit. I went in to candle them last week after the teacher said she candled and they were all goners! Well, I went by today and candled and tossed 8 that were clear that they left in there after last week. The rest seemed to be alright, I could even see movement in a few! I went from expecting a hatch of zero there to having about 20 that seemed ok.

i need to go back and actually count how many they have in there! All the bad ones came from my white leghorn. But there are some welsummer, buckeye, Cochin and EE in there all under a buckeye roo. Should be interesting to see what comes out!

HI,
Suffering from disappointment this morning.
I have wanted Buff Orpingtons forever and gone to great length to find them
I purchased from a BYC breeder with a great reputation and paid a fair price for my eggs.
She packed perfectly and sent four extras.
Candled at day 11 and only have 5 developing.the rest clear................grrrrrrrrrrrr
Is there anything beside not being fertile that anyone can think of that would cause clear eggs????????????
It does not make sence to me that she would have a fertilization problem.
I may write her.but do not want to offend her.
Thanks in advance for your ideas............

We were just discussing this on another thread. I wonder if the post office is x-raying more than they used to? I can usually get a good number of shipped eggs to start developing and just recently I noticed that I have been getting a lot of clears.

Hey everbody. Hope all of your April's goes better than my March.LOL Im channeling positive vibes to all the hopeful chicky parents out there.
I got 3 very broody hens due on the 16, 20 and 24. I'm gonna set 6 eggs tomorrow under Patty my partridge Chantecler.
If anyone remembers my March was a total failure of an attempt to incubate so now it is up to mother nature to show me how it is really done.

Eggs Under Hens:

WLR Cornish (Cornelia): 12
Partridge Chantecler (Patty): 6
Silver Kraienkoppe (Squeak):15

I dont know if i should let Squeak have all 15 eggs. She is my smallest hen.

She has been broody the longest and it seems like she does have all the eggs covered. Some of the other hens just keep laying next to her so she keeps trying to cover more eggs.lol Silly birds. I have considered moving her and her eggs to inside my shed and into the grower pen but I will need the grower pen when my 50 chicks come in the mail on the 22. Yeah April should be raining baby chicken showers around here. And who knows but I got a hunch two of my dark cornish are get close to broodiness too. May God bless you all with a great hatch this April.

Still nothing this morning. How long is too long for them to be in their egg?

I don't know, honestly. I would think that you could candle and maybe see internal pips? And you could do the float test to see if they are still alive..... If they are dead, I would do an egg-topcy to see if you can tell what went wrong. I hope for the best!!!!!

Welcome to the 'shipped egg' life... Sorry, but all my eggs I've been hatching have been shipped, and it just happens...
