Leave the hen alone!! She will stay on the young and wait until the others hatch. - She will abandon the nest if you distress her too much. Also sometimes if they are stressed they will kill the babies so leave her be! When she is ready she will up and leave the nest and nothing you do can make her sit again especially if she has chicks with her. Usually the ones she leaves are dead none hatchers anyhow. But I think you said you have some from a friend and don;t know how old they are???? If she gets off the nest and there are eggs still left you can take them into a bator. - you can float test or candle them to try to see what is going on. ( It does sound like your egg you did candle is near hatching!) If she abandons the nest - with the first hatchers I would take the others into the bator and give it a few more days. Then float test just to see if there is any life. Pitty you don;t know for sure the dates but there can't be much more than 7-10days between at the outside?. - It is likely you will get a staggard hatch. A good hen will stay on the nest until the viable ones are all hatched, If she isn;t disturbed and can get to food and water easily. She may todle off to have a poo and return immediately - most times they just stay on the nest. But if she ups and leaves with all the chicks and goes off for a dander and has a big poo chances are it is over and the eggs that are left are abandoned. - It is up to you if you give them and few more days in the bator. You can sneak extra chicks under mom at night when she isn;t looking. - Though my hen wouldn;t have any of that. I had two chicks from the bator and she had 4 and she would NOT take the other two no matter what we did. She could count Darn!

Though worm hunting is a fun occupation for potential chick mommas and pappas! lol - DH and I did many days of that with "our babies! " While the hen strutted about tutting at our feble efforts at raising baby chicks!
uh oh... i dont have an incubator.....

Guess you just have to leave her alone and let nature take its course then. Honest hens know what to do - lol They can usually tell if an egg is viable way before we can. That is why some eggs get tossed out of the nest. We think Ohhhh how terrible and she thinks gosh that ones a dud - toss it! She should stay on th e nest fine if you don;t bother her too much!

Dh is away to sort the Electric as it is flickering with the storm. - He is all worried about "his babies" upstairs in the bator! lol - His babies

AWWWW I have some BLRW as well! I have three very dark ones ( I think they will be black laced) one medium brown one... not sure about this one may still be black.... one very light brown one (either blue or splash) and a solid lavender one!!!! (splash or blue)

So you know what colors they are from hatch... I would love to know which is blue and which is splash!

An up-date on my next hatch.... I set the Sussex and Sultan eggs this morning (I could not find air cells in any) ... and got the citron hamburg eggs waiting to go in tonight............VERY DISSAPOINTED IN MY HAMBURG EGGS!!!!! 1st they are super tiney... the size of bantams eggs!....NO SMALLER than bantam eggs!!!!!! and the breeder assured me they are standard size... which I am now doubting, or if they are then they are from young birds, or they are the smallest egg laying hamburg EVER!..... They are also dirty!!!!!!!!!!!
barnie.gif
and I cannot tell AT ALL which side is the big end as both sides are identicall!!!!
barnie.gif
they are marked so I went with how she marked them..... I can see no air cells in any of them, BUT one had air bubbles!!!! AIR BUBBLES!!!!! I only got 4 eggs and she sent NO EXTRAS and I paid like 30$ for them!!!
barnie.gif
only because I thought they were standard size and I could not find ANY standard size anywhere......
