April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Ended up with six chicks out of 9 eggs that made it to lockdown. I suppose I should wait another day (that would be day 23) and then do the float test? When do you call it quits?

Sounds like sticking it out to at least day 25 is worth it - could be a few late bloomers.

Going into lock down tomorrow morning since the work week starts up - also looks like I can't count and there are actually 12/24 eggs growing in #2. So almost even with the 13/26 in #1 - not bad for shipped eggs. I know it's probably my imagination seeing eggs wiggle the tiniest bit in #1, but at least it's possitive imagination! :)

If your temps have been a little on the low side it is possible that they will be a little late. I would leave it. Just to be sure. You could always candle to see if there is any movement. Also they may be round the wrong way. And another thing Is if you hear anything like movement and look out for internal pips. I would just make a small hole at the end where the air cell is on one of them so you can see better. Just an idea. But precaution if there is any blood put them back and leave them. Don't touch again for at least 4 hours!!
Oh and if you decide to do this do not break through the membrane. Shell only!!

IF the electric went for just an hour the inside of the eggs should have stayed warm in the incubator. Sometimes hens go for a wander for ages and go back to the eggs and they hatch fine so don;t get tooo upset just yet. Also you might find they are late in developing due to the temp going down - so do try to leave them and NOT OPEN THE BATOR!!!!!!!

Oes - I feel your pain! :pop :pop :pop

I know, lol dont worry i have decided against opening the bator frustration last night was getting the better of me im just going to leave them and see what happens :)

Not sure on that one either. I have 11 out of 15 but really that should be 16 because one of the "duds" hatched. I had left them in because they didn't smell and my DS does the eggtopsies with me and we try to figure out what went wrong. (Obviously something in my candling ability!) So today I pulled the other three duds and left the nonhatched eggs in for another day.

I lockdown on Monday also. My first hatch. Hope I don't mess it up. I have seen movement in a few of them. I am having problems with humidity Can't keep it over 40% I have a sponge I will use at lockdown and hopefully can bring it up. Good luck to you and keep us posted. I will post pics if I get any chicks. I only set 9 mutts

Nor sure if anyone said this. I am a bit behind on posts as usual.
It's a good idea to place the sponge under one of the air vent holes in the bator. That way you can stick a long straw through to add water.
I use a long straw with a 50cc syringe (no needle) attached to it and then just pour water in onto the spnge.
Good luck with the hatch!

Ha ha you got lucky dip eggs like me!!!!!!!! - Mine are still blue no matter which way up we turn them so Dorkings they certainly are not? But what are they? Who knows we will see? If anything hatches. I didn;t bother looking for air sack or candling I just bunged them into the bator and voila something will or will not be there in the end?

Good luck - mine might be lizards???

Oes
This made me laugh ^^^^^

wouldn't that be a shock to think you were incubating chicks only to come and find a bator full of baby lizards!?

you are right Dorking eggs would not be blue :) I have 5 left and they are very white and ought to give other eggs a lesson on clarity. I have been able to see moving embryos inside for days my brown eggs I pretty much have no clue.
Sorry, there is just way to many posts for me to comment induvidually....soooooooooooooooo

Have a great weekend....................................
Stories like this are what make me leave anything questionable alone. Happy for you congratulations and all that!
ok, sooooooooooooooo..................... I need to say something to the breeder of my $$$$$ eggs

1st) eggs are TINY!!!!!!!!!! and they certainly do NOT look like LF they look like mini bantam eggs
2nd) the are DIRTY!!! two are VERY dirty, one is kinda dirty and one is clean
3rd) TINY eggs, DIRTY eggs, EXPENSIVE eggs, and NO EXTRAS ( would not be a big deal if they were clean and the right size)

I dont want to be mean, or disrespectful, it will do no good.... but I am VERY, VERY VEXED and dont know how to handle this.... am I overreacting?????
What do I say and how do I say it???????????

You can always compose something and post it for input. You have received good advice here. Maybe the seller is new to this and doesn't know better. You could approach it like that. You may offend them by appearing to be condescending but as long as you are polite it's their problem not yours. Saying something like "I am very sorry if I misinterpreted your egg listing, but after my research and because of the wording in your listing I expected LF eggs. I also expected they would not be dirty. A little smudged is OK to set but dirty isn't so I was disappointed. Also I should have asked about extras but I just assumed you would send some because that is the norm with shipped eggs." If the seller is nice you can leave neutral feedback if they aren't then you should say just what you said here.

Day 20.

my two lonely eggs were wiggling like crazy on day 16 then the power cut for only an hour and no more wiggles, cant hear anything so guessing they haven't internally pipped and really have a bad feeling about them. I'll see how it goes, u never know i guess.

I don't think going without heat for 90 min will be a problem. They are possibly gearing up for the big push. You may want to play the radio next to the bator to encourage them to bust on out of there. Good Luck and I hope they are just resting up for the big day.

Speaking of I better go turn my eggs!
