Update - back from the store and -----------------------------

Sad to say still nothing NOTHINIG!!!!!!!!!!!! I am begining to get worried now as I think the window is passing?
Oh well when you think of it the eggs were not in good shape really at the start so if anything grew in them at all I would be surprized - it was worth a shot.

I am leaving them till Sunday then doing eggtopsy. Gosh that so sounds sad to say that word after all the hype and hope?

Aw, that's so sad! Doesn't sound good, but there is still a chance. I've had hatches with a 0% hatchrate before so I know what it's like - such a huge disappointment. Hopefully they'll do better next time!

i just went to check on the chick that I assisted out of the shell. And to my big suprise one of the other eggs in the incubator had hatched! Fully developed and looking good - I thought they weren't due for another three days so was going to put them in lockdown from tomorrow. I haven't even heard him chirping, and I havent been able to spot a pip either - he was just suddenly sitting there looking at me.

Oes
The window is definitely NOT passing. You are only a half day passed what the usual hatch date is. You have tons of time left for optimism. There are any number of factors that could delay hatching on Day 21. You just never know. Case in point ... I left this morning to take hubbie to work ... when I got back home there was another chick - FROM AN EGG THAT HAD BARELY PIPPED. It zipped and hatched within 30 minutes. So .... anything can happen ... and will.

We are on day 15 here today! Candled yesterday and found a bunch of beautifully growing babies. Here's a video I tried taking of some movement I saw while candling... It's a silkie egg nicknamed "Cottonball". 3 more days till lockdown!!

Oes... What type of eggs were you hatching again? I know somewhere I read that some eggs can take as long as day 25. We're these the cracked up and waxed up eggs or was that someone else?

I think you still have time.... You could open the incubator check one and spray them all down with a fine mist of water then recluse maybe... Then you could see if they are internally pipped maybe?

I love you guys!!! Your awesome everytime I have doubt I get on here and someone else has the same doubt. And there is alwys a great reply. But I
have a question my eggs are hatching now luckily we put them in lockdown a day early. Good thing!!! My question is when a chick first pops a hole in the
How long does it usually take to hatch? I'm doing real good not to open incubator but it is KILLING me!!!!!!!

It could be 12-24 hours after 1st pip, they are getting used to breathing air and probably napping as well. When you hear that peeping go cluck like a chicken and encourage it!!! It will be your first bonding experience, my chickens all go peaceful and quite when I make the same sounds I did as they were hatching, it's really cute.

remember it's called lockdown for a reason, hands off unless you know there is a real reason to open the incubator, and good luck!

Here's the one I did an assisted hatch on today. It was shrink wrapped inside the shell, but perfectly healthy and after resting a little he was ready to go back out to his momma hen

Wow - so you didn;t get a chance to raise the humidity or anything. - I asked this because the instructions on our incubator was to fill in inner chamber with water every two days during the first 18 days and then in lockdown just to make sure it was well full to the top and lockdown( Couldn;t see how that would increase humidity levels. IT did however say to fill the next compartment out full if it was particularly dry? ( I take this to mean sunny weather) We did anyway - as our heating tends to make the house quite warm anyway. But you got a chick and you did nothing too so it must work?

Sometimes I am sure I can hear a tapping but no pips and no chirpping for sure. There is that little indent on the surface of one of the heavey eggs - but now I am wondering if it was just there all along and it was wishfull thinking because I was soooo wanting a pip. I have not given up as I have had late hatches before but I don;t think we will let it go longr than Sunday.
After all the MAY hatchalong has started already and I need to get me some chocolate Maran eggs. ( Want them as well as blue layers!)

Oes - makes me feel better in that we didn;t do anything wrong in not adding a damp sponge etc!
