Got your box today plumcreek. Thank you for the beautiful eggs! The PO did a job on them! I just love it when the mail person hands you a box that is marked FRAGILE all over and the box is mashed and leaking wet goo!

Well, thankfully 16 eggs survived. They are washed off and resting right now. Going in the bator tomorrow. Thanks again!
HOLY COW. Talk about rough handling.
Maybe, just another thought, we should insure eggs? I seem to think it's only an additional $1.95 or something along those lines. Not sure how we could make that work, but that way if someone gets a box of eggs (or even something else breakable as I see there are a lot of people sending jams and such) that's completely unusable, then they can at least get their money back (I understand that the PO doesn't insure for the cost of shipping, but since it's an even trade and we are only paying for what we ship, couldn't we simply insure it for what we spend to ship them?). That way it wouldn't be a total loss.

This is just a swap so I am not going to make anyone pay for insurance. We need to remember this is for fun and I don't want to make too many rules. Also the Post office will not cover eggs so insuring them is just a waste of money.

I got my mystery box came in the mail yesterday!! Yay. I got 7 duck eggs with two extras, funny thing is one of the eggs that was wrapped in bubble wrap and put inside a box then inside another box had an egg break. The two extras were on top nothing happened to them go figure.

Thank You Amanda I can't wait for them to hatch they are resting on my kitchen table, man duck eggs are huge! Now should I wash them off? Such a messy spring.

Figures. I don't wash my duck eggs. I wipe the excess mud off if they are really dirty with a dry towel but I don't send those really muddy ones in the mail. I have washed them in the past and they still hatched so it's just a preference.

As for the insurance thing, I didn't know they wouldn't pay for them. I have mailed TONS of eggs. Luckily I have had great luck with them arriving in one piece, but even with superior packing they don't always arrive in tip top shape. I had one box go to CA (from ME) and it arrived completely smashed, only 3 out of 46 eggs were ok. The box had a foot print on it like it was deliberately stepped on. The PO put it in another box, then in a bag and delivered it that way. Crazy! But the cost of the eggs along was over $80. I insured them as the buyer wanted me to, and she did get reimbersed from the PO. And they clearly knew they were eggs as you have to send pictures and everything when you file an insurance claim.

I agree that you don't want to add too many rules and such as that may take the fun out of the swap. But it was just an idea. I know I would be saddened if I sent tons of eggs and what I received in return was damaged. I know it's not usually the senders fault which was why I thought insurance might not be a bad idea.
