Arachnid, Arachn'dont!!

Yes and they had to clean it out. I will spare the nasty details. It was horrible.
About 12 years ago we cleaned up the basement - moved things, sorted, threw out trash...and so on. We must have disturbed some spiders because my bluepoint Siamese cat (my BABY! the one who cuddles with me every night and puts his paw in my hand!) was suddenly acting sick. The vet said his temperature was so high that they actually had to pack him in ice packs!! The vet wasn't sure he was going to make it, but he pulled through. Their best guess was that he had been bitten by a spider. Not a black widow, I suppose...or a recluse... because there was no rotting wound, but that was what they thought had happened.
Since then, I still catch the harmless types in Kleenex and put them outside, but the black ones, and the ones that MIGHT be dangerous have to be...culled. Quickly.
I really like spiders - but after that I can't take chances. My boy is 14 now and not as vital as he was when he was younger. I won't risk it.

I know how painful a spider bite can be I got one on the finger by a brown recluse the pain was awful.
Exactly! The brown recluse is way worse! Black widows are like a bee sting unless you're allergic to them. My son used to catch them, put them in a jar and bring them to school for show and tell. Back when that wasn't politically incorrect! I wouldn't sweat the black widow and certainly wouldn't burn anything up over it!

Brown recluse, on the other hand, can cause necrotizing fasciitis and that is a NASTY horrible thing resulting in the massive loss of tissue and I don't mean kleenex!
