I’d so love to know whether this little girl we bought today (4-5 months apparently) is indeed a girl? She seems to have pointy neck feathers, possibly pointy saddle feathers but unsure? I’ve never had this breed before. She’s also so friendly and affectionate, which I usually find is more common in roosters.. she was trying to snuggle under our other chook today. Help! Xoxo Kylie

Also, her poor little beak, unsure what that may be from but I hope it isn’t causing her pain, she seems to eat ok.

:welcome At 20 weeks of age, I'm leaning pullet, but am not 100 % on that. The bird has a crooked beak tending towards cross beak. Keep an eye on it as sometimes this condition worsens as the bird ages.
Thank you very much for your thoughts xoxo ok I’ll look up cross beak- what do I do if it worsens? What causes this? She’s a lovely little thing, I want to care for her as much as I can.

It may be caused by an injury, but in my experience it is generally genetic. If it worsens to the point the bird has trouble eating, deep dish feeding of moistened feed and beak trimming can help. Good luck.

Awh poor little thing, I hope she isn’t in pain. I’ll do all of that if she needs it, thank you again. Is she an Araucana? Will her eggs be green? She’s very tame and sweet, little darling of a thing. 😍🥰💜

We had a Rhode island red when I was growing up that had cross beak and it never affected her eating but we kept it trimmed back...we just used finger nail clippers or puppy nail clippers to just trim the top beak enough to where it didnt hang over the bottom beak...keep them fairly even lengthed.
