I found a few new orange/red feathers coming in MJ's saddle feathers.

breeding takes time. we don't get rid of a good bird because of something that can be fixed. I learned it hard way.

I just realized I forgot to post the updated pics of Sera that I have from last weekend! She's gotten SOO much bigger than Ahsoka... I'm starting to think that even though I was told that she was LF, Ahsoka may be a bantam. Her EE sister is also quite small.

here's the update from today, just prior to shipping! I'm so excited!

It turns out I am NOT crazy after all!! I DO have a white chick that hatched out of Triton (the triple tufted cock) and Lucy the BBR hen. My splash chick, that is half the age of the white chick, started growing in some grey feathers...whereas the other chick was staying chalk white. I know Nancy had awesome white Araucanas at one time, in fact I think I read Ann Charles started her whites from Nancy's line. So I got to thinking maybe there was some white crossings in the pair's background. I went to the genetics calculator and made 4 generations (each) starting with one white parent and the other black or BBR, then crossing the recessive white carrier offspring. Bingo! I got white chicks! Only a 12% chance...but its possible! So here is my handsome (I'm leaning towards cockerel) little single tufted WHITE chick. I call him Lil' Sweet!

Ugh...so it turns out 3 of the 4 chicks from T'Pau's hatch are cockerels... 2 clean faced BBRs and the tufted cutie in my avatar. The tufted one is staying though; his tufts are just too perfect and I believe he is carrying silver. I'm thinking the same results in the the clean faced black hen's hatch which is almost 2 weeks younger. Luckily the one I think is a pullet is similar to the avatar chick (a full sibling) except she has a salmon breast and looks more silver duckwing. Next week I am selling the clean faced black hen along with Ratchet's son (who is starting to show some of the red saddle feathers MJ has), which means I can move Ratchet into a flock and that frees up a pen, meaning I will have less chores!
