They're doing great! I can't wait for more feathers so I can get them outside though. My husband is already complaining about smell, and its been less than a week! I don't smell anything... just pine. How are your chicks doing Frazz? Did you get your run secured?
So my one and only goal for my first year of breeding was to get a carbon copy son of each of my cock birds. I got my mini-Mano, and an even better son from Triple Tufts, but no backup Blue Boy. Of course he was the one I most wanted a backup of, because he will be 4 years old next summer. I have a splash chick and a blue chick, both clean faced, that hatched from him and his double tufted mate. I was really hoping the splash was a cockerel, so I could take its mother and Ratchet, which are both heavily tufted, to try to make a backup Blue. Unfortunately I think my Splash is turning out to be a pullet. Please send cockerel vibes to this little one! I'm hoping it may just be a late developer.

On a side note, look at the size of the splash and blue chicks compared to the others. They are BRUTES, and have been since hatch. The little black chick is my runt. She is out of Lucy and Triton (aka Triple Tufts). I've been calling her Weird Al but do believe its a she. She has really wonky tufts - one is positioned very low on the side of her face and is huge and pendulous, the other tuft is properly positioned and small.

Why is it when you want a cockerel you get a pullet and when you want a pullet you get a cockerel?sorry but you have girls. I wish you next time you will get a cockerel.
That is my dream trio! Cuckoo, mottled and blue are my favorite patterns and color! On another note... I need to get some pics to show you, but I think two out of the three chicks I bought from Ann Charles are tufted. The 'cuckoo' is definetly double tufted... the 'blue mottled' is starting to look tufted too. He was sold as a pullet (pretty sure its a cockerel) and non-tufted. I need to get good pics to show you.
Well, the blue cuckoo cockerel, his cuckoo is so faint it may as well be non-existent. He did have a head spot, so I know the gene is there... I just don't see the pattern. The other two are 'blue mottled' and 'bwhich I need to really check out for mottling and a blue splash. Ann called her a 'paint' but she looks like a splash to me. I'll have to get some pics. That is my dream trio! Cuckoo, mottled and blue are my favorite patterns and color!
