Araucana thread anyone?

I'm keeping one splash cuckoo hen, the others went to various people in the Seattle area. (a very generous person was able to transport them down to the Seattle area, as that is a LONG drive for me)

The Blue Cuckoo male is still here, waiting his destiny. I'm really hoping someone snatches him, and that I won't have to cull him myself.

They want to cut back drastically, and though they LOVE the Araucanas, the Araucanas aren't made of gold like Tolbunts (who are projects anyway and at least 2 generations from a true breeding good Tolbunt and so in the mean time I haven't made anything beyond $20 from) nor are they Shamos that are just a pair that was shipped and paid for as adults and make decent money for just one hen.

I still do indeed have the the best of the best Araucana hens, and was lucky to keep Josephine for now (she runs loose and they don't like that) and I still do have that golden duckwing cockerel, haven't posted photos of him yet, so there's still a good chance we'll be back up and breeding again but if so, it won't be til the cockerel is old enough. He's only 3 months right now.

In the mean time almost everyone is molting, no one is laying, and that's not helping my chances.

I am SO glad you still have Josephine! She seems like such a lovely girl both in color and personality!

What do you mean that the Araucanas aren't made of gold, but the Tolbunts are when you haven't made much off the Tolbunts?

They want birds that lay plenty eggs, but also when the eggs aren't being eaten, can make a decent amount of money. Tolbunt Polish make a lot IF purebred and of good quality. And their hope is in the future, the future generations doing so. In the mean time they like seeing the Tolbunt boys, and if I dropped the Tolbunt project it means dropping the boys. They like the Araucana girls but some don't care for the boys, possibly because they never go out there and visit them

So, the Araucanas are off the list for now.

It's silly and often confusing, but, not my idea or decision.

In the mean time I'm gonna post pics soon of my only and possible future breeding Araucana cockerel as well as a couple of his half-sister pullets I'm keeping.

At least you still have a few Araucanas though, you can hopefully build up a larger flock again in the future.

Did you have to rehome your Marans too?
