Araucana thread anyone?

Yes, polish for the crested. I started with a black ameraucana hen bred to a polish roo, then added Araucana to keep the blue egg going and had hoped to get rumpless, didn't happen, but maybe from her babies. She hatched from the prettiest blue egg. She is in with a lovely rumped rumpless roo, and will hopefully start laying soon. I am waiting to see what egg color I get from her.

She is a hoot. She loves her picture taken. I was telling her what a pretty bird she is and she was agreeing with me.

That's what I thought. It would be crazy to just lengthen the saddle feathers and still have no tail. I may try this spring, just for the heck of it.

Pokey, keep me posted. That would be neat. I know some breeders have mentioned that some of their roos saddle feathers seemed short and I have noticed 1 or 2 of mine that have shorter saddle than the others. I would be interested to see how it turns out.

Sharon,

I see even funnier looking birds in your future.

I was pleased in how she turned out. I found that I didn't like the personalities of my polish and it took the 2nd generation before the personalities became more Araucana like and less polish like (flighty).

I know that Ann Cushing had a Araucana/EE hen that had muffs, beard, and tufts. It was a beautiful bird. Its what originally got me thinking.

With yokohamas laying tinted eggs, it might not mess with egg color too badly if you used them to lengthen feathers of Araucanas. Could be a great project to improve the feathers, they'd look fantastic and regal! I think you are on to something wonderful!
