Thanks! Sadly some tuft jealousy occurred and they aren't nearly as glorious now. Seems like that happens to everyone who has a bird with great tufts?
My personal "favorite" episode of tuft destruction was when my magnificently dbl tufted bantam rooster, who was free ranging, spent the morning shoving his face between the chicken wire into the Marans breeding pen. I would go out to find the little Araucana boy, totally unable to do any damage through the fence, being picked at and pecked at and horribly flogged by the Marans flock, all of whom are enormous compared to him. Of course, his tufts were completely removed by the time I got out there the first time. He had been so proud of those things too, but just had to stick his scrawny little neck in and taunt the big guys; Sometimes they can be such idiots.

hey wait a minute! I did get a great BIG super ugly egg today and I was scratching my head trying to figure out who laid it; I've never gotten one quite that color before. thanks - that was sort of bugging me that I couldn't think of who should have that color egg and i have never had a first egg be that size. Ha!
I totally had to go open the egg fridge and confirm that it is indeed as ugly a color as I was remembering. Yup, still is!!
Honestly though, it can only be improved upon, so that's good news. This means that I am waiting for eggs from one more of your girls - yippy!
I forgot to mention that I was looking this little guy over today. He is my pure black araucana roo that I have been waiting for. He let me know he was a roo when he attempted to make love to one of the pullets in his pen. Anyhoo, I noticed yellow bleed thru in his hackle. None in the shoulders or saddle at all, which is weird, so am wondering if he is a she even after his attempt. LOL!
Here are two pics. He is 4 months old. Pics were taken last week. In the second pic if you look below the left tuft ( your left ) there looks to be mud on the neck. Thats the gold bleed thru.

Aw, I would love to see a picture.did you know that polish used to much more long feathered but judges thought it was too much with the crest so breeders stopped breeding for it.

Cute! Does the breeder breed for those specific varieties, or are those the color genetics that are mixed to get these chicks? I'm not really seeing any of those varieties specifically, so perhaps they are a mix of the color possibilities? Sure do see a tail on one of them.
