Araucana thread anyone?

The first batch of shipped eggs- 1 out of 11 eggs hatched, 4 made to lockdown.

Tried again from the same seller- 2 out of 12 shipped eggs hatched, 6 made to lockdown.

Dang we have the same bad luck! I just bit the bullet and purchased ALL adult birds. I am not buying hatching eggs anymore. After $600 and little to show I was fed up. And this week I already got 4 blue eggs from my rumpless and one from my BLRW. I am hoping these will have 80-100% hatch success!

Good luck to you

I will ask Stacykins for some chicks as she lives in the same state as I do, if she plans on going to chickenstock.

I see a bunch of duckwings w/columbian so far. The tailed ones I sell as tailed Araucanas, pet price, pet homes only. Tailed males go as Easter Eggers or get eaten here.

One of the males shown next to the white is also barred - He'll be a BEAUT when fully mature. Granted that he's black based and not blue.

I am putting together breeding pens now. In a few short weeks I will start hatching and I always have TONS of chicks that aren't going to be show quality but are from the best show lines. I have bantams in white, black, and blue, LF in white. If anyone is interested in chicks at quite reasonable prices, let me know.

you guys aren't helping my resolve not to hatch till march ya know... just tonight i caught myself checking on the quail grow out pen weights to see if they were big enough to process yet so that i could start a small araucana hatching project first lol

Hi Cindy,

I look forward to meeting you in Stockton in a couple of weeks. Did you talk to the show secretary about a special meet and a breed table. If you want me to call him about a breed table let me know. I have some araucana table items , like the banner. I will root through and see what I have.

I have never had a good hatch rate with shipped araucana eggs but I do keep trying. I think everyone has hatched eggs from my shipped eggs, but again hatch rates are not huge. I am envious of the people with other breeds who say that they got their shipped eggs and hatched 100%. Lets say envious and sceptical.

I sold 6 pullets today to two sisters that just wanted cleanfaced and rumpless, although they did get 1 tailed pullet, but when they started looking at my tufted birds, they changed their tune pretty quickly. LOL! Everyone does. I had a nice batch of tufted chicks this fall. But the tufted are already sold and get shipped out next week, so I didn't have any to sell them. But they do want 1 or 2 later in the spring.

All it takes is looking at 1 really nicely tufted bird to change a tune. When I first started I thought I didn't want tufted, but I saw one and decided that was definately what I had to have. The tufts are what scream araucana.

Hey Lanae,
I look forward to meeting you too. Do you know the show secretary to ask about a special meet?
This will be my first time to Stockton. Would you consider coming North to Oregon if we got the Araucana National in Stevenson?
I don't think I really am interested in running a table- planning to have fun at a show without a ton of responsibility for once. There's always a ton to do at our local shows and I rarely get the chance to just talk chicken!

I will run the table no problem as long as its only 1 day and I think it is. I will try to call the secretary tomorrow. I don't know him personally but I have his phone # around here somewhere. If we do a table it will give us all somewhere to gravitate to and visit with chairs.

Yes I would come to oregon for a special meet but I won't have any birds to show. I sold my 1 white show bird and I don't really have anything else good enough. I am working with the BBR and duckwing so I have a ways to go. But I would love to come to the show if I can swing it. Maybe by a miracle I will hatch a georgous bird that will be old enough to show. Here is hoping.

I agree you met James my fiance and he wasn't really into the rumpless birds. Now he loves them :)

I posted the pics of the chicks I hatched out of shipped eggs. There are 5 total and two with tails. Some seem to have what I think are tiny tufts. Can you look and educate me on what colors you think they are called?

Oh yeah they are pictured on page 425 of this forum.
