Araucana thread anyone?

I am a member (though I need to renew right NOW or will loose my membership). I will look at my calender and talk to my husband and do my utmost to make the October show happen - Let you know as soon as I can commit to it.

So I have been struggling with the whole which cabinet incubator to buy and I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Dickey 3 tray no hatcher incubator with acrylic window and added humidity bucket, and the Dickey 5 tray hatcher with acrylic window and added humidity bucket. They will be here next week. I can hardly wait.

I will send a photo when I get them here and get the eggs into it. I am almost at the point where I will have it half full right away I think.

Try not to overwhelm the delivery man too much when he arrives with your incubator - I think I was bouncing so high and so hard in my excitement when mine arrived that the poor man was fearful for his life. He was just lucky that I didn't plant a big wet one on his mouth in my joy at it's arrival.
I am now officially waiting for your incubator pictures.

Megan,

I will chant under my breath as I answer the door " Don't be Megan, Don't be Megan, Don't be Megan" LOL!! No amount of chants are going to work. Actually the reality is that my husband and I are leaving sunday for a much needed little vacation. We are headed down to Orange County to visit friends and take the boy to Lego Land. My daughter and her husband are staying at our house while we are gone. She is so much like me, when I mentioned my incubators would be arriving on Wednesday, she said " Don't worry mom, we wont open the boxs, I hate when someone else opens my packages". Thats my girl.

So I officially have 3 chicks so far from my duckwing pen. One is pale cream with almost no chipmonk marks. It is the tiniest little bird. I hope it makes it. The other two are looking to be wild type bbreds.

Now that I have these incubators coming I need to get serious about my note taking. What all do you use to keep track of what hatches from whom and overall evaluations of each chick. Do you leg band or what to identify each chick.

For my Blue eggers I am not worried about keeping track. I only have two pens and will be only keeping rumpless crested and muffed birds. The blue eggs out of those two pens are beautiful. Way better than my araucana eggs. I read somewhere that to clean up blue egg color, breed your hens to a roo from a white egg laying breed. For my blue eggers, I started with polish roos and black EE hens, then added the araucana in the second generation. Egg color has been a dramatic improvement. I still don't want to try it with the araucana but it has been interesting to notice.

Buddy is a blue w/gold leakage, probably half blue, half duckwing. The dun color in there is likely just mossiness, as real dun would affect his entire blue coloration. He sure is a handsome guy though! Nice and chunky.
