Araucana thread anyone?

At worst Illia it would be a wheaten split with something else as it is obviously coloring out wheaten, so I am confused that you were correcting me or really why it would matter enough to contradict what I was saying.

Actually I meant to correct myself, in clarifying, that Wheatens wouldn't look like that, but BBR's may, however the eye liner says otherwise for both.

Here is one of my duckwing chicks at 2 weeks. I love this bird. I am getting some seriously nice birds out of both the BBR and the duckwing pens.

Don't mind the cob webs in the background. It give a certain ambiance. LOL!

Are those bilateral symmetrical tufts I see? Very nice!

Latest photos of "Josephine Jr." -

Which by the way "Josephine" is finally brooding on a clutch of her own eggs, this time actually fertile and developing.

Very excited. She's done it before with her own, but only had two chicks and one sadly died.

Currently all my three latest laying age pullets are in fact laying, so production is going nice and I'm getting so very pleasingly blue eggs.

The above pullet does in fact have the same size tufts on each side, they're just a little chewed. In fact only a couple months ago her tufts were entirely plucked clean, thankfully they mostly grew back.

Larry is seriously beautiful.

Thank you!
That is why this Springs lack of fertility has been so frustrating. Larry had a lot of brothers and sisters that did not make the grade last year. It took many chicks just to get one Larry! My goal this year is to raise 4 rumpless and tufted barred pullets. That means I have major hatching and culling to do. The vent trimming has worked. The last two dozen eggs that in the bator only had one that did not candle. I should have a nice round of chicks in two weeks.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had leads on lavender araucana breeders in the US. I found one in PA and a couple in the UK, but nothing for sure or reliable for this season. I have a friend who is a vet tech at a zoo, who has done great things for me on my farm and usually all free of charge. This spring he ventured out to add to his backyard home flock and was set on lavender araucana. His hatch from a small number of eggs produced just one chick who seemed to be a genetic outliner. I'd like to be able to thank him for all the work he's done for me and my brother's farms over the years and bring some hens from any breeders in the area. I'm in Western PA.

Any leads would be very helpful!

HinkJC in PA is really the only person working on lavender Araucanas full time and sells. What color did the solo chick turn out to be? If it was black, then it could likely be a carrier of self blue.

Araucanas, whether lavender or not are very hard to hatch when shipped, despite all the care taken during incubation. I know my post office must play kickball with the boxes since there are always detached aircells and damage to the box (though never any broken eggs). It results in a crummy hatch rate.

Very sad day yesterday my BBR chick (the only one I ever hatched) disappeared. Not sure where it went but it was in the brooder when I left. Thinking it slipped out of the cage and got lost or eaten or possibly that a squirrel pulled it through the brooder wire :(

Shannon, I am so sorry to hear that. That is just aweful.

Illia,

Josephine gets prettier ever time you post a pic. It seems like she has filled out more also. Congrats on the fertile eggs. I bet she is happy as can be although she actually looks fairly cranky in the photo. LOL!
