Araucana thread anyone?

I guess I was under the assumption they were the same thing. I purchased her at a feedstore because I fell in love with her as she was different from the others. The sign said Araucana and I was told they layed the 'Easter Eggs' when I asked.

Not the same thing but she is pretty anyway and will hopefully lay blue or green eggs for you.

The real Araucana can only be purchased from a breeder. The issues with fertility and the lethality of the tufting gene make them a non viable bird commercially, so hatcheries do not sell, them or even have them in their breeding pool.

I take care of Gary Ramey's chickens and do his internet stuff. He keeps getting messages about Araucanas from this forum. He is banned from the forum and cannot answer. So if you've sent an inquiry and haven't recieved a response, that is why

He's been banned since before I even had Ameraucanas, I think it was political, have no clue though.

It would indeed be great if people interested in his birds but unaware of that info would have a secondary person to talk to on here.

Love Gary's Araucanas, and would love to see more people having access to what I believe is the only source for purebred shippable chicks. (?)

I bought four young Araucanas at a feed store. I don't think they were from a hatchery, but from someone who didn't want them as they were not tufted. They are rumpless, have a pea comb, and are too young to tell their gender...at least for me. The last one in this group of photos has darker legs, but the others have light shades...not slate green. Isn't that a characteristic of the Araucanas? I have a few pictures and would appreciate any help in identifying coloring, etc. I'm a complete novice at that.

I wish I found those at my local store :) My guess is you have a white, mostly white but leakage, and two splash. Thats my best guess.

That was a rarity indeed, finding them in a feed store that, in the past, has only had chicks from Ideal. A couple of splashes would be great! I think those are beautiful birds. And, I love that little one with the two black dots. Had to name her (?) Dot, after my beloved dog.

You have a white, a splash and two mottleds. The mottling gene interupts the dark color in the legs so you get mostly light yellow to dark yellow legs. For the splash and the white the leg color is correct also.

Pic 1 & 2 look like roos, 3 & 4 look like pullets, Illia is better at the gender game than I am so she may have a better handle on their sex.

Why would anyone be banned from this forum? I don't mean anyone specifically, I just mean IN GENERAL, what would lead to someone being banned?
