Araucana thread anyone?

I hope you don't have to sell any birds! If I sell the majority of my eggs for eating I can break even on the feed cost (for layer pellets). In WA pastured eggs are going for $4 per dozen. If I sell them for hatching I can get a lot more, but I don't tend to have as many clients that want hatching eggs. A neighbor gives me all his blemished tomatoes and fruit for the chickens. I also found a bakery outlet that sells whole grain breads for about $1 per loaf. They don't get a ton of bread, but it doesn't help out with the feed bill.

I was looking for work for a while, too. The chickens were what got me out of bed in the morning! Haha. I think I would have started selling off the furniture before I got rid of them.

my chickens keep me alive, too! I don't sell so many eggs but it helps a bit. I sold some broken gold and bought a few chickens!

If yourr in Washington state look for "X Cell" feed. It's made here in state, Tacoma as a matter of fact. It smells good, it's pretty mixed, inexpensive, but it's smallest size is 50lbs.

thank you but I live in another part of the world - in greece, europe. you probably heard about the crisis here! commercial food either for people or for animals is god knows what made of. we buy what we can see with our eyes only.

I am sorry. I wish the Euro never happened. I was in Germany a few years before the change, I tried saying something to folks but not people of influence obviously. I do pray that resolve will happen for you all. I do worry for the European nations. I wish that more politicians thought about the importance of sovereignty.

they learned it hard way. but when it is about money people can do absolutely nothing. the same happened id US - factories moved to china for cheap labour and when people lost jobs nobody could buy and the market was gone. the europeans did the same mistake and today we have strong china and the US and europe struggling to survive. EU was a kind of the end of europe. politics! that's why I spend time with my chickens, they are not as stupid as people!

BTW I am about to get my 2nd rumpless araucana! she is about 3-4 weeks old and I will take her in about 10 days.

I agree, unfortunately we are bound in this life to money. I despise the need for it. To profit the few on the blood and backs of the many, it's a sickness called hording. If it were any other material, these people would be treated for a mental illness. A thought from the Native Americans says as much, they felt that those who horde goods and riches to the detriment of the tribe were sick in the head and spirit. Congrats on your little rumpless! I imagine that you have access to a bunch of breeds we can't get here yet, can you tell me of some of them?

I was told this is a pure ameraucana by the breeder, it looks a lot like my EE when she was a chick with the exception of the grayish hue.

Wait till it is grown out to see if it matches one of the types in the Standard of Perfection for Ameraucana chickens. If so, then you call it an Ameraucana. If not, then you call it an EE(easter egger).

This is the only breed that does that. An Australorp that does not meet the standard is called a non standard Australorp.

You will have a very nice chicken though!

Since you bought the chick from a breeder, do you have a plan if it is a cockerel?

Does anyone in or near Indiana have and Rumpless, tuffed or clean faced pullets or young hens for sale. Egg color #1 priority, want a good representation of the breed but can have flaws as they will be pets rather than breeding stock. Thanks, I have several people looking :)
