Araucana thread anyone?

But since y'all are talking about necked necks I have a question... I resently got (in a swap) about four "top hats" I guess they are necked necks x silkies as claimed by the swapper I heard they could also be necked necks or polish.. But do they do well in Indiana?

Are they Showgirls? They should do okay there, I've found they adapt well to wherever they are.

I should of mentioned they are eggs currently... I will probably just sell or trade for something I want I didn't really want these I more of wanted the silkies but the member was having issues with the silkies so I settled...they sent more then I asked for so I guess it's ok

OMG these are the cutest tiny little walking footballs I have ever seen! Got these two today with a Lavender Orp. LOVE THEM!

Eggs or chick(ens)?
If eggs I may take you up later. I'm still jobless and not sure how long I can keep my peeps. I'd really hate to have to give them up , but bills are trying to pile up on me.

I hope you get a job soon!

what do you feed your chickens? I feed mine corn, wheat, any greens/veggies/fruit and hard boiled extra eggs. helps me a lot with bills and they still lay plenty of eggs. for proteins they eat insects, worms, etc. and for calcium stones and marble powder (I live in greece). I feed chicks only commercial feed for about 2 months.

I feed mine commercial feed, layer pellets. They are just as cheap if not cheaper than getting individual grains and such. They also get any and all table scraps and leftover not eaten within a week.

Quote: I hope you don't have to sell any birds! If I sell the majority of my eggs for eating I can break even on the feed cost (for layer pellets). In WA pastured eggs are going for $4 per dozen. If I sell them for hatching I can get a lot more, but I don't tend to have as many clients that want hatching eggs. A neighbor gives me all his blemished tomatoes and fruit for the chickens. I also found a bakery outlet that sells whole grain breads for about $1 per loaf. They don't get a ton of bread, but it doesn't help out with the feed bill.

I was looking for work for a while, too. The chickens were what got me out of bed in the morning! Haha. I think I would have started selling off the furniture before I got rid of them.

that is ok than. commercial feed is more expensive here and you don't know what they put in it. very often it is smelly too, like oil out of date.
