Araucana thread anyone?

My guess is that they're mixed with Silkie. That head on the rooster looks so Silkie to me. Dark skin feathered legs and crests, all point at Silkie heritage.
That makes sense.
Sad. He is sooo pretty - I was hoping I could have purebred chicks.
I may hatch a clutch or 2 for fun, though, while I look for a purebred roo for my hen.
Thank you so much everyone.
I love learning more about this breed.

No eggs left.

The 45 from the Araucana rooster were infertile and another 49 from different runs were also infertile.

I figured the hatch rate as 86.85% based ex on the number if actual fertile eggs.

Let me know if you want any of the ones I told you about... will probably be changing out the roo sometime soon... :)

Thanks draye, that was really confusing me, lol...

Sorry he's not pure... but if you can get chicks, they'll probably be cute for pets...

Also, your hen is not Wheaten, just an fyi... wheaten would be a reddish color throughout the body with darker redddish head and neck... she looks like a mismarked duckwing color... I have a few bantam Araucanas that look similar... :)

I tried to hatch 10 and only one hatched so if in the future I figure out if it's a roo or hen I'll buy some from you if they are for sale at that time

Ahhh, that makes sense. I can't remember the colors that the breeder had.
I just love her - she has such soft feathers & a great personality. When she gets a goody, she'll run off by herself and put out her wings like a hawk protecting its kill...

Aren't they awesome? :D

I love them the most because they are so different and truly unique from other breeds... hands down, my favorites for sure...

Well, I'm on the hunt for a nice rumpless roo, preferably tufted & preferably locally. No color preference.
I'm near Napa & I'm willing to drive up to 2 hrs 1-way to pick up.
Thanks.

It's a tie for me between rumpless Araucanas & Ko Shamos right now.
They are both so smart that it's freaky.

Very true! Although I can't speak for the Ko Shamos, lol...

We moved a couple of ours and my fave pullet did not want to stay there... kept flying back to her old place, or my shoulder, lol... put netting up over the pen and she flew out several times before we finished... at the end as we enclosed the area above the gate she looked up and studied it for a minute... then instead of flying into the net as we expected, she climbed the gate and tried to find a gap to squeeze through!

Lol!
She thought it was a new game for her. :)
