Araucana thread anyone?

The UK standard is not a combination of both Araucanas or Ameraucanas. I can not find the exact date that the UK was accepted into their standard but I did find they were in Scotland in the 1930's. They have crests with muffs and beards and a tail and the rumpless ones have crests with tufts and muffs and beards.
The Ameraucanas were accepted in the APA in 1984 thru their due process same as the other breeds.
The Araucanas were accepted by some odd reason without going thru the proper procedures that the other breeds were subjected to. They are very difficult to breed to the standard because they are not homozygous and do not breed 100% true, really they are that difficult they do not even breed 50% true due to the heterozygous nature of the standards. I gave up on the Araucanas due to the nature of only getting 5% that meet the standard, my ameraucanas almost meet 90-100% of the standard.

Well, I guess it's a good thing I have them for eggs and companionship rather than show. I dream of one day having the two parent breeds of the aracaunas. Perhaps that way there is more possibility of breeding to standards?

No matter what, breeding Araucanas to standard is very hard, time consuming and gives very few SQ results... Mr. Shaffer made very accurate observations... Araucanas have so many difficult variables to breed for that it is more the love of the breed that keeps most breeders going forward with them...
And UK is definitely not a combo of the 2 breeds... biggest difference is Ameraucanas have white skin, Araucanas have yellow...

I meant that they have incorporated aspects of both American breeds into one standard that includes both a tailed/muffed variety and a rumpless/tufted variety. They don't make a distinction between the Ameraucana type birds and the Araucana type birds. They are both called Araucana.
