Araucana thread anyone?

@pginsber Not sure if you still follow this thread, but I think last year you said you may want more Araucanas? Depending what you are after I may have some available in a few months. I'm about 10 miles north of Peru but I could meet in Kokomo if that helps.

@Trish1974 - Thanks for remembering! :frow We like to have some blue eggs in our basket and our only blue-laying Cream Legbar is 6 1/2 years old now. The rest of our flock lays varying shades of white, brown, and pink.

We have one double-tufted roo over 7 varying breed hens, no Aracauna hens, though.
In February, I popped 9 eggs in the bator and candled after 10 days. None were growing. I wasn't terribly dismayed, because it had been winter and everyone wasn't out much and it was my first time with a new bator. Last week, I popped 9 more eggs in the bator. In a few days, I'll candle again and see if there's any growth.

IF our embryos are growing, I'll be set. If not, I may PM you. I would just be seeking a blue egg layer, not to breed/show, so clean faced and cull-quality would be fine.

Sounds good! Best of luck with your hatch!

Good luck! Does your roo have any problems lining up with the tailed girls? My white araucana roo couldn't get things to work out, as much as he tried.

I was wondering that, too. My Cholo hasn't had any luck with the hatchery layers...

He's a fantastic, attentive, gentle rooster. I've only seen him show interest in several of the hens, not all. As for his abilities, they're unproven. He's our first roo, so I'm inexperienced with what a roos & tailless roos performance should look like--.

When he mates, it looks like he's surfing on the hen's back for about 5 seconds. Then the hen runs away and acts like he messed up her feathers and she fluffs all over at once.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like that, but my expectations aren't high for the eggs in the bator.

Hello and shalom every one, I was invited to visit this thread and it sure looks like a nice one!

Interesting. So they are rumpless, but muffed and bearded instead of tufted? They are lovely birds!
Yes I know, they are quite puzzling, I think that because we have a VERY limited gene pool of this breed here, they all started from 2 roosters and 5 hens If I remember correctly, that can be the reason.
And thank you.
