Araucana thread anyone?

Yes I know, they are quite puzzling, I think that because we have a VERY limited gene pool of this breed here, they all started from 2 roosters and 5 hens If I remember correctly, that can be the reason.

Different countries have different breed standards. The standards for Araucanas can differ greatly between countries.

Are they even pure Araucana, or were the mixed with Ameraucana somewhere down the gene pool?

They are pure, the person that brought them here got the P generation from a very known breeder, can't tell his name now. I think that my birds are F3 or F4 and they are 4 years old.

I know the men that brought them to Israel, we have a Huge problem here, by regulations you have to pass a realy Via dolorosa of bureaucracy to import even one chicken egg to the country!( that don't stop from the agriculture department to import to Israel more then 150 million egg a year from many countries.......) so every breed that we have came here in a very winding and long way......
An example of a stupid regulations: in Israel you can't have more then 10 Leghorn cross layer (AKA "white chicken ") unless you have a license but you can have any colored breed becous its considerd a pet, so you can have 1000 brown leghorn hens......

How long ago where the Araucanas imported. When I was in Israel a year and a half ago there was talk of using the Braekel to replace the Cornish cross.

If I remember correctly it was 6 years ago. You are entering to a HUGE debate! Some of the ultra religion factors said that the Braekle is the ONLY kosher chicken and others say that it isn't kosher at all! Did you know that some sectors don't consider the Araucana and it's eggs kosher? The roll is that if the animal changed significantly, like extra toe, (Dorking, silky, ) or the ones with the blacks skin are not kosher? I think that it is stupidity, they just have to ask a biologist, like me, to know the answer, if you breed 2 specimens and you get from them F2 generation ( grandchildren ) they are the same species.

On a whole different note... I candled eggs last night. Ten were not fertile. Three are questionable and I will recandle them Wednesday.

It seems Blue is not fertilizing the clean faced blue hen, but he is the double tufted blue hen.
It seems Triple Tufts is not fertilizing the clean faced black hen, but is fertilizing the other two (a double tufted black and clean faced BBR). Maybe a blessing in disguise though as that would cut down on the amount of clean faced chicks I get. I'll try vent trimming the clean faced blue for my next set of hatching eggs. The clean faced black I'll just let go.
