Araucana thread anyone?

How long until banty aracaunas start laying? I think mine will be a year in April(not quite sure) The girl still isn't laying. I will know in a few weeks if the roo is "getting busy" because I'm going to try and hatch some cochin crosses. Gotta get their pen done quick- the cochins are acting like they're about to go broody on me.

I think he's right at a year old. As usual, your birds are lovely - thanks for all the great photos.

He's young give him some more time he may get it right soon.. also you could separate him for a few weeks(1-3) then re introduce him back to the girls, this sometimes helps

thanx...

THAT'S FANTASTIC!!!!!!! I have been thinking of you and wondering if there was any way the eggs made it to you still viable. Well, I guess so! Congratulations! Any photos of the babies?

Just questioning - Where are the eggs? I want to see the glorious eggs, too.

I'm getting Araucanas as soon as this batch of eggs coming to my bator will be done, but I first want to see who has what eggs - What should I expect. I've only seen one photo of skyblueegg's eggs, and one photo on this whole thread of an Araucana egg.

Anyone got photos of their girls' eggs?

Well, this is a mixed group of eggs. The darks are my cuckoo marans, olive are from a BCMXameraucana pullet and the blue/tinted eggs are from araucanas. Araucanas can have eggs colors from stone, khakhi, greenish to blue to almost whitish blue. They are not always blue though this is a goal of the breeder.

In the below photo the reall big blue egg is from one of my EE hens. She is colored like a brown leghorn hen and lays the biggest blue egg out of my flock.

The other non brown eggs are araucana. The one that looks pink is from one of my mixed breed hens.

Your Olive Eggs are amazing! I wouldn't call them olive, but more. . stone color. They're really neat! That pink one too is just gorgeous! I've always been in the searches for a breed or cross that will always throw me pink eggs. I currently have a New Hampshire that gives me the most amazing of pink in her eggs, even against my Brahmas - But she's all I have. Just one girl.

Any other pics?

Here's one of my best males for 2010. I hatched him last year and he is turning out very nice. Pic isn't the best due to cloudy weather but he has a great beetle green sheen, all black. He has small, even wattles and a very small, tight and straight comb. He has one medium sized tuft. I have several black hens and pullets to put him on once spring gets here.

Forgot to mention I do have one of his wings clipped which is facing.

So, what do you all think of him?
